Luxurious Rural Barn with Pool & Hydrotherapy Spa. Miles of unspoilt beaches.

Recently restored Grade II listed Barn, 5 bedrooms with double bed in each and small nursery off the master bedroom (travel cot available on request).

Relax and enjoy great views from the windows of the minstrel gallery, have fun in the hot tub and swim spa, use the barbeque and enjoy outdoor games in the extensive grounds.

Medieval Swafield Barn offers high class self-catering accommodation in a truly outstanding building located in a beautiful rural setting, with large grounds and is located only a few minutes drive to the nearest beach.

Using the Barn as a base, guests can go on to explore Norfolk’s beautiful countryside and coastline and all that they offer. Medieval Swafield Barn is ideally located near the North Norfolk coast, close to the coastal resort of Mundesley (3 miles) with its wonderful sandy beaches, historic market town of North Walsham (2 miles), Cromer (8 miles) and the Broads (8 miles), Sheringham with its picturesque train station and variety of shops (13 miles). National Trust properties, Felbrigg Hall and Blickling Hall, are both just in 10 miles from Medieval Swafield Barn and both boast fabulous properties to look around and outstanding grounds. A little further afield you will find Sheringham Park, another National Trust property that is well worth visiting.

The Barn had, for years, been a rundown outbuilding until the current owner had the vision and passion to restore it create the beautiful space it is now. You will love the exposed brickwork and lofty beams and other original architectural features that have been left in situ to add to the historic and romantic feel of the Barn. Although the restoration was careful to leave signs of the past, it has a design-led blend of modern features such as the hot tub and swim spa, along with concealed lighting and underfloor heating for your comfort.

Up to two dogs are welcome at the Barn. At the beaches and at the National Trust grounds previously mentioned, you will find some great walks . The Butterfly reserve, Paston Way and Dilham to North Walsham canal (Norfolk’s only artificial, locked sailing canal) are five minutes walk from the Barn and ideal for leisurely walks or bicycle rides. The Canal Trust now offer boat trips throughout the year and funds from this are used to support the restoration of the canal.

The nearest villages are Swafield (1 mile) with the award winning local butcher, Tavern Tasty Meats, Trunch (1.7 miles) with an excellent pub 'The Crown Inn' and the Market Town of North Walsham (2 miles) containing several restaurants and large Sainsburys and Waitrose. We can highly recommend the quality of the food at the Chinese restaurant in North Walsham, charmingly called the Chubby Panda along with The Ship Inn at Mundesley which over looks the beach and is always good for a visit.

The Barn has ample parking for about 7 cars.

The bedrooms are divided up as so:

Great for a New Year's break
We had a great New Year celebration - 3 families and plenty of space for all of us. Hot tub was a great hit.

Fantastic property, the pools are amazing, comfy beds, could maybe do with some more seating in the garden area, but would definitely go back 😊

Perfect hen house
The house exceeded expectations. We hired the house for my friends hen weekend, and all activities were planned around not leaving the property. We had a lady come to do a gong bath, a chef, and sports day! The space was just perfect for all of these. We were lucky with the weather as well, so spent a good amount of time in the hot tub too. The bedrooms were huge, and for 10 of us there was more than enough space. Highly recommend.

Review of our family holiday
The barn is lovely place to stay, however, we encountered numerous small issues with the facilities which, in total, became quite a nuisance. Most of the issues could have been avoided by the team using a checklist to work through. Issues were: 1.None of the batteries in the TV remote controls worked. All needed new batteries 2. The drain in the en-suite shower of the main bedroom was partially blocked which caused the shower cubicle to fill with water 3. A shower in one of the other en-suite rooms didn't work properly 4 Kitchen tap was so loose that it had to be held to use, not an easy task given the high temperature of the hot water! 5. Tumble drier out of order! - Towels provided were like sand paper! 6. outside shower by hot tub didn't work due to a broken connection. 7. The waste bag in the vacuum cleaner was completely full making hoovering impossible ( a member of the team who came round & provided us with a new hoover bag). This lady also promptly arranged for the shower drain to be cleared and the tap to be completely secured - for which we thank her for her prompt attention .The barn is lovely but its tired and needs some serious TLC

Nice but not luxury
House is a bit tired, soft furnishings leave a lot to be desired (including bed linen), carpets not great in bedrooms, beds uncomfortable, needs an overall maintenance check throughout…shower adjusting pole coming away in one of en suites, tap lever falls off on bath, would prefer locks on bedroom doors, No lighting on large garden and insufficient lighting in hot tub area, didn’t appreciate camera pointing over hot tub area either. Also some cooking equipment useless i.e poor quality frying pans and both tin opener’s don’t work. Plus side….generally a lovely large house and very large hot tub was brilliant. (bit of a chore having to open and close main gates which were a bit decrepit every time we went in and out) However we still enjoyed our holiday…but would not return.

A great New Year and Birthday celebration
Overall both families had a fantastic time at the rural barn. There was plenty of space for the 9 of us, unfortunately due to personal circumstances the third family could make the long weekend….had they been with us things would have been a little tighter. If I was being critical there are 3 things I would look to improve….firstly I would improve the furniture downstairs looking onto the hydro pool. As the kids were in the pool for most of the time adults sat in that area and the ratton furniture and old leather settee are just not up to the job. Secondly, for the price the barn costs to rent I would include sky to as a minimum and put a further TV downstairs in that area I mention in the first point. And then finally given the large kitchen and number of guests just having 3 uncomfortable breakfast bar stools is not enough for 3 families to use. All easily addressed and all three points would ensure the barn is to the standard the cost demands. All that said it was a lovely property and we took full advantage of all the facilities and would consider using it again if staying over that way.
