We stayed in the one bed room unit, a quite big room with a everything equipped kitchen. Clean and tidy ; friendly staff. Very good services. Only one minor thing is: there is a very strong gas smell at the lobby area, may be it's the gas heater! Otherwise it's perfect :)
As the title suggests, right in the heart of queenstown, couldnt be in a better location. Hotel itself, not one complaint, great. The gym was very small and i ended up paying to go to the local gym, but thats just a personal thing for my training.
The Pounamu Apartments are the perfect place to stay in Queenstown. The apartments are modern, elegant, and well-kept--immaculate. The beds are super comfortable and there's even a faux-fur blanket for getting super snuggly. The bathrooms are super clean and the showers/tubs are stone tiled which is super clean. I stayed in a studio facing the back, but for the full experience, book a one bedroom or better facing the lake and mountains (although I did have a mountain view). The views are exquisite from the larger apartments. Even in the studio, there is a fridge and sink, and I took advantage of the complimentary coffee, tea, and milk.
Of course, when staying in Queenstown, it is all about exploring the town itself. It is only a 10 minute walk into town and it costs about $9 NZ to take a cab (get a Prius cab). The staff is very knowledgeable about the things to do in town and around the area. I had them list all of the best places to eat, and they were right on. I also had the staff help me book ski transport. Their concierge-like services help make the most out of your Queenstown experience.
I had the most wonderful experience at Pounamu. I will be back.
1. Remember to book the hot tub. While this is less social than just keeping it open to all, you guarantee your spot and a pleasant soak.
2. Walk to town, then cab back if you have to.
3. Let Pounamu call cabs to the airport. They get a special rate.
"Fabulous hotel/apartments overlooking L. Whakatipu"
We were given a generous sized room with a fabulous view overlooking Lake Whakatipu and mountains in the background-awesome!
There was a lovely balcony off our room which would be great in the summer especially to have a cup of coffee or glass of wine and enjoy the activity on the lake.
When I saw the hotel first , I thought it was old & small then when we checked in to our room I was surprised by the big size of it & the great view of the mountain & city , the owner was was really nice & helpfull , we enjoyed our stay & we will diffinetly go back again.

I spent a week at the hotel during ski season with my two children. We had four days of snowboarding and two days to relax and enjoy all that Queenstown has to offer. I loved the staff they were warm, helpful and very kind. They had great local knowledge and were good for general advice on places to eat and things to do without pushing anything too hard. The look and feel of the rooms is simple but stylish and very comfortable. My daughter loved the huge bath, which was great after a day on the mountains. The canapes at 6pm is inspirational, it gives you chance to talk to others without any pressure. It's relaxing and friendly. You can swap recommendations on snow or restaurants. I particularly liked the convenience of the mini-kitchen. It meant I could microwave quick oats for the kids before catching an early bus to Cardrona.
