  • Tuskegee University, one of the largest historically black universities in the United States, is a private university located in Tuskegee, Alabama. It was founded by Lewis Adams, a former slave, and George W. Campbell, a former slave owner. Adams asked that an educational institution for blacks be established. After Foster won the election, $2,000 (per year) was allocated from the state general budget for such a school to be located in Macon County. It was officially founded on July 4th, 1881, with Booker T. Washington, then a 25-year-old teacher at Hampton Institute in Virginia, as its first principal, a position he maintained until his death in 1915. Tuskegee acquired university status in 1985. Today it offers undergraduate, masters, professional, and doctoral degrees to more than 3,000 students with a strong orientation toward the relationship between education and work force preparation in the sciences, professions and technical areas. It was the first black college to be designated as a Registered National Historic Landmark (1966), and is the only black college to be designated as a National Historic Site.

Comfortable stay

Nice location, just a couple minutes down the road from TU! Tub, bed linen, refrigerator and yard were all clean. I left my electric toothbrush and the host offered to ship it back to me! Next time I’m in town, I’m definitely booking this but again! Thank you!

Our host was amazing from onset to conclusion. Communication was great. The advertised unit is “COZY” yet very accommodating, clean, and efficient. Time has been unkind to the area in general; limiting dining choices and community appearance. This listing, and especially the host of this listing exceed all expected categories of comfort and efficiency. I recommend this host and this listing to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable stay, at an affordable rate. Tim & Pam

The room I rented was well kept and renovated in new modern look. Clean in the inside. This is the kind of space I needed while Traveling through. The host was very communicative, prompt with replies, and checked on me during my stay. Free wifi was a plus. Overall, I was satisfied. The only critique I have is the clutter in the carport (maybe cover it with a tarp or place in a shed) and Tuskegee is a small town with lots of abandoned buildings. The neighborhood was quiet. For the price and my needs, I still give this place 4.5 out of 5.

The home is behind another home. It is in the process of being renovated. I honestly would have been okay with the property if the bed had not been TERRIBLE. It was the hardest mattress I've ever experienced and the squeakiest springs. It made for two terrible nights of sleep. We did not complain to the owner because I felt like there was no immediate fix. But I was literally looking for another place to stay the second day to try to avoid repeating the first night. It was pretty rough. But the owner was lovely. Hopefully, he'll switch out the bed and that will solve the issue.

Single room rental

Room comes with its own full bathroom, looks newly renovated. Really enjoyed double shower heads. Shared kitchen space. Quiet neighborhood within 5-minutes driving distance of Tuskegee University and only 30-minutes from Auburn. Came in late and there were motion activated lights along the side of the house leading to the back entry. Loved that feature because my phone light wouldn’t have been enough. Owner has a room on site, very responsive and wants to ensure your comfort. Lovely home for single room rental or an option for a larger family to rent a larger, adjoining room also with its own full bath. NOTE: Room came with a TV and attached Roku but I did not use this amenity. WiFi information clearly posted on desk. Lots of great features. Thank you OSA!
