It’s impossible to miss the Stratosphere Tower rising above the Las Vegas skyline. Part of the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino, this 350 metre structure is the tallest free-standing observation tower in the United States.
Take the lift to the to the top of the tower – unbelievably, it only takes 1 minute – and enjoy stunning 360 degree panoramic views across the city and beyond. There are both indoor and outdoor observation decks to choose from.
For the ultimate adrenaline rush, try one of the four rides at the top of the tower. Be warned, these are not for the fait hearted! The Big Shot ride will catapult you almost 330 metres into the air from the tower’s mast. You’ll experience 4 G’s of force as you are shot skywards at 72 kilometres an hour, before the dizzying descent. X-Scream could not be more aptly named. Not many passengers can keep quiet as this giant rollercoaster tips them head-first over the edge of the tower.
Experience Insanity – literally – as you are spun around on a mechanical arm nearly 20 metres out over the edge of the tower. 3 Gs of force will propel you to a 70 degree angle, facing down over the city below. This is definitely an alternative view of Las Vegas. However, nothing compares to the signature ride, SkyJump. Will you be brave, or crazy, enough to plummet 260 metres towards the ground in the highest controlled free fall in the world?
For those who aren’t up to the challenge, the Stratosphere has delicious dining options. The Top of the World restaurant slowly revolves 243 metres above the ground while you eat and has amazing panoramic views. Try Jet Fuel, the signature cocktail of the Air Bar located on the 108th floor a heady mix of melon liqueur, rum, amaretto, peach schnapps and fresh orange juice to be savoured from a souvenir cup.
Take a different sort of plunge at the famous Chapel in the Clouds on the 103rd floor, a popular spot for a wedding with a difference!
Stratosphere is located at the north end of The Strip and it is easily reached by monorail, public bus and mini-bus shuttles. The tower and rides are open daily late into the evening.
