relativ dunkle Unterkunft, semi-sauber
Friendly, helpful staff. Made me feel welcome. For the price I paid, it was great. The only problems are typical of dorm style accommodations: not everyone knows how to use a quiet voice and there is the occasional person who snores. I would definitely stay there again.
The room is an open area for more than 30beds...so sometimes had many noise! But it was clean !

Certainly a budget stay
First of all, it’s important to mention that this is a budget lodging, and also that I am quite used to staying in hostels. This hostel is literally one room with 60+ beds in it. The sleeping area is separated from the kitchen and bathroom areas by a curtain. Staff were very pleasant and helpful - can’t fault them. Key things to be aware of are the one large room, rubber mattress and pillow which a paper sheet is provided to go over. Also, think about bringing a blanket. This hostel is mainly used by pilgrims who have their sleeping bags with them. I was kindly provided with a blanket to use, but I don’t know how plentiful the supplies are. You should also bring earplugs and/or a sleeping mask. Some bunks had a curtain, but mine did not. As I mentioned, I am quite used to staying in hostels, but I wasn’t quite prepared for staying here. As a solo female traveller I did feel a little vulnerable.

Large albergue in the shopping district
I stayed here my last night in Santiago. I had to catch an early bus to the airport and this albergue is VERY close to a bus stop for the airport bus. It's only a half kilometer from downtown. Free lockers for backpacks, very helpful staff, and good solid bunks in cubicles of 4, each bunk with its own light and power outlet. The shower facilities were not well kept while I was there, though this could have simply been because I was one of the last to use it.
