About this property
Beautifully Refurbished Historic Railway Cottage
A beautifully refurbished warm and cosy original Railway cottage in the quaint village of National Park, the Gateway to the Central Plateau area and the dual World Heritage listed Tongariro National Park.
This has been a family holiday home for thirty years, but now we want to share it with you, so you too, can enjoy the multitude of exciting adventures this stunning part of our country has to offer.
In the well-appointed beautifully sunny, north facing kitchen, you will find everything at your fingertips. We've purposely left out the draws and cupboards so you can see where everything is at a glance and there's a flash new stove with gas hobs.
The cosy, comfortable lounge area is open to the kitchen and dining area.
There are two bedrooms with queen beds and a large bunk room for the kids (2 pairs of bunk beds) which have been custom made, so plenty of head room for adults to sit and read. All the beds have electric blankets. There's heated towel rails in each of the bedrooms and a shower that NEVER runs out of hot water.
Duvets and pillows are provided. All other linen (including snuggly flannette sheets) is available on request and at an extra charge per person for the duration of your stay.
Lockable shed for your bikes and skis, plenty of off-street parking (4+ cars), attractive lawn and garden areas with a large lawn at the back of the house where children can play safely.
A two minute walk to the lovely Station Cafe. Other cafes and pubs are an easy walk. Walk the perimeter of the village in 25 minutes and enjoy the bright starry nights. Our skies are so clear here.
Four hours from Auckland and a little more from Wellington.
Don't forget to check out D.O.C.'s amazing Summer Time Programme. They provide a range of extremely interesting guided one day walks and excursions. There's something for all the family.
Special conditions: Minimum stay 2 nights Smoking allowed outside only
Extras: Linen (Optional, NZ$15.00 per person).
NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to clean the house and do the dishes before you leave.

The house was lovely and the wood fire kept it very warm. It was only a 5 minute walk to the shuttle bus area for Whakapapa (Mt Ruapehu) shuttle buses, which was very convenient. Would definitely stay again.
Great stay; handy to the facilities and areas we were attending. The house and amenities were just right for the events we were undertaking. Fully recommended.
If you are wanting something super central and warm to base yourself for your National park adventures then this is your place! Well equiped for any type of group, whether you have kids or just a group of mates! Highly recommend it!
Beautiful house, surprisingly spacious, and the log burner made it super warm and cosy for our late-winter stay. Handy to Whakapapa for snow activities. Very good, helpful communications from the property manager. Thank you.
Lovely cottage with character and charm. Great for a family get together especially for going on a group walk on the Tongariro crossing. Excellent facilities for cooking for lots of people. Very clean and had everything needed for a family.
We loved this charming cottage. It was welcoming, cosy, beautifully decorated and thoughtfully equipped. Clear communications from the host made the stay and checkout process easy. We would definitely look to book here again when we next visit the area. We did not ski, but the cottage's location makes it very handy to Whakapapa Village; just a short trip down the road.
Very conveniently located to go up Whakapapa Skifield. Overall very happy with our stay as cottage is warm and clean. One thing we didn’t anticipate is the number of trains that went pass throughout the night.
