"Beautiful guesthouse in an idyllic setting"
The Layang Layang Guesthouse is absolutely fantastic. The staff are all friendly, helpful and a pleasure to interact with (especially the young Bangladeshi man with the mustache - I'm sorry I forget your name but it was great to meet you and chat with you!). The room was comfortable and clean with good air con. The communal area bathroom and shower area is picturesque, and the reception area is beautifully done up with all sorts of collected retro items. While it's only a stone's throw (one street parallel) to the famous Jonker Street, it's not caught up in the busyness of Jonker. My room was directly above reception and at the front of the building. Admittedly, noise did travel from reception, the street, and the room next door - but I think that this is part-and-parcel of staying in a converted shophouse, and the price you pay for being in such an idyllic setting, so I do not see it as a negative on the part of the establishment, but something to perhaps take into account when booking this type of accommodation. If you want a completely soundproof room, perhaps you shouldn't be staying in the old town area at all! Will stay again when I'm back in Malacca!

"A great hotel for a great place to visit"
On arrival was upgraded to a larger room at the Heeren Palm Suites, a sister hotel in the same street as the Gingerflower. The room was excellent, with a large bathroom, a small balcony and lots of charm. Like the Gingerflower the Heeren Palm Suites is a beautifully restored shophouse in what was millionnaires row. The public areas of the hotel are to the same high standards as the rooms and very spacious for a small hotel. A delicious breakfast was served each morning by the fiendly staff who on my birthday presented me with a cake and sang 'Happy Birthday'. Outside the hotel, Malacca is a great place to visit for anyone with an interest in history. There are lots of museums, some of which are very similar, but it is the preserved town centre that is the real gem, a living museum. A great place to drop in for tea is the Cheng Ho Tea House, two streets over, and don't miss the Jonker Walk market on the weekend evenings. Take time to explore the junk and antique shops. I hope to return one day.

"Nice hotel next to Mahkota shopping center."
Good and new budget hotel in Melaka. Room is clean but small. Wifi is terrible inside the room once the door is closed but alright in the corridor and lobby. Shocked to find a bunch of hair inside a newly replaced towel but can request for new towel anytime.
