Families with children and anyone under 50 BEWARE!!!
I have stayed at the Ilikai in the past for business and figured it would be a great place to have friends and family meet for my wife's 40th birthday. What a mistake that was, from the first night we arrived and met up with everyone that flew in from all over the country, who I convinced to stay at this property, I could tell that the hotel is not what it once was. To start, since we were the last to arrive (from Virginia Beach) we decided to keep it low key and eat dinner at buffet inside the hotel, Cinnamon's, where you had to pay extra for each slice of the prime rib, in addition to the very limited choices. Next, we all decided that we would get some sun and use the pool, which is very small and outdated not mention is patrolled by the "'Fun Police" aka, residents and long term timeshare holders, who at any infringement of their sanctimonious space will have the staff before you in a matter of minutes. This particular instance was a small Bluetooth speaker playing Tom Petty at a level only our group could hear, nothing blaring or obscene whatsoever. However, in between the wind blowing the residents (who have their chairs reserved by staff in the morning, against their own rules,#4) could hear the faint sound of music due to there not being any played on the pool deck, and called the pool staff over to have us turn it off. Needless to say, we did not go back to the pool and felt like we were captives the entire stay!
