17th century converted barn in Cotswolds stone- 5 mins from Bourton On The Water

This dog friendly property is a recently converted mid 17th century grain barn that sleeps up to 6. It has two double rooms but has a delightful shepherds hut that provides a further bed and facilities . The Barn has many of the original beams and features and is in a quiet village very near to all the amenities of the famous town of Bourton On The Water. The Barn has all the facilities you need - wifi, tvs in each room, a well equiped kitchen, bbq, hairdryers, car charger and a log burner to cosy in on colder evenings . Have a little stroll around our garden and help yourself to the apples from our small but beautiful orchard. Whilst Clapton On The Hill is in a small hamlet providing you with peace and quiet, it is only minutes away from ‘the venice of the Cotswolds’ and a short drive to other popular towns such as Burford and Stow. There are plenty of beautiful country pubs to try in the surrounding villages.

Perfect spot for a relaxing vacation

This home is located in the perfect spot to explore the Cotswolds area. The accommodations, Clapton and nearby villages were all straight out of a storybook. My wife and I had a wonderful time with our four teenage daughters exploring Clapton-on-the-Hill and nearby communities. Our only regret was not extending our stay for a few more days... Janey was a very responsive and helpful host and the property had everything needed for a very comfortable stay. We will definitely return if we are able to make the trip back across the pond in the future!!

It was literally a privilege to stay here. The pictures don’t do the property justice. Comfortable, homey, had everything you could possibly want, attention to detail was extraordinary, comfortable rooms and beds, spacious, immaculate kitchens living area, beautifully manicured lawns and orchard. Honestly, the photos don’t do this property justice. We will absolutely book here again. Lovely 40 min walk through fields into bourton on the water, an easy car ride to visit nearby villages and restaurants. Only hiccup was finding the property once we reached the intersection coming in a different way, but was simple enough given how small the village center is :). Incredibly relaxing stay, we are filled with gratitude.

A paradise in the Cotswolds

The Clapton-on-the-Hill Barn is fantastic. We stayed for three days at the beginning of June, while on holiday from New Zealand. Our London-based son, daughter-in-law, baby, and their whippet stayed with us in the main house, and on one night, friends from Bristol stayed in the Shepherds Hut. The property is beautifully furnished, both indoors and outdoors, and a full kitchen is equipped with plenty of kitchenware. The appliances are top rate. The beds are super comfortable with generous bathrooms. The garden was in full bloom. The location is top rate. We toured around many of the popular Cotswolds villages, but Clapton on the Hill is a secret to most tourists, so we really enjoyed the serenity of our location. If you do need to stock up with food etc, Burton on the Water is very close by. We really enjoyed walking around the hamlet – especially the gorgeous church and churchyard. There is a little contemplation green space adjacent to the churchyard, where we all sat late one afternoon in the sun, enjoying conversation and agreeing that the barn was a most excellent accommodation choice. Janey the host, is welcoming and responsive. Although we did not meet Janey in person, we talked via text.If you have a toddler, the circular staircase in the centre of the house will be a major fun attraction, as we found out, but it just means a bit more watching out. Without a doubt, we totally recommend this property.

Gorgeous place to stay when in the Cotswolds

Janey’s place is a gorgeous place to stay, a stunning area of the Cotswolds and ideal for groups that have their own transport. Lovely garden area to sit and enjoy the long warm evenings with a glass of wine. Bedrooms were nice and spacious and the Orchard End snug was really cosy and spacious enough for two. Surrounding area is beautiful however you need transport to get anywhere as there isn’t anything to do in Clapton-on-the-Hill. Burton on the Water is a short drive away, should you prefer a taxi a people carrier for 6 people will cost you £35 - £40 per journey. Walking into Burton on the Water will take you approx. 45 mins across the fields, it is a really enjoyable walk. We felt relaxed as soon as we arrived and had a great weekend. Janey is a superb host and responds to any queries promptly. We would highly recommend Janey’s place for a visit to the Cotswolds.

Wonderful countryside getaway

My family and I were looking for a quiet, quaint place to stay in the Cotswolds and this ticked every box for us. The property was like a setting out of a movie. The house was perfect, well laid out and well kept. Every appliance you may need (including a clothes washer, no dryer though) was included. It can’t really stress how cool this house was and how beautiful the grounds are. My oldest son slept in the “shepherds hut” and loved it. The small village didn’t have any restaurants or pubs but that leant to the quiet and peacefulness of the setting. There are walking paths nearby and you can get to Bourton on the water (you have to spend some time here), Stow on the Wild, Upper and Lower Slaughter (Lower Slaughter almost doesn’t seem real) and easily. It really was a perfect location for us to explore. We didn’t spend much time at the house because we were out exploring but it f we ever get the chance we will definitely be back. Can’t say enough about this place. Don’t hesitate, just book it today!!

Janey’s home is exceptional. She was very quick to respond to questions and made every effort to address our needs. We loved having modern amenities with all the charm of this converted barn in a small village. The property includes a small apple orchard, lovely garden and patio with table and chairs. My 19 year old son loved the privacy he got in the shepherd’s hut located next to the main house-(double bed with a sink/ toilet separated from the bedroom area by a curtain). The location was an ideal for exploring the Cotswolds. The New Inn in neighboring Coln St. Aldwyns was an outstanding find for delicious, creative food and friendly staff. We spent 5 days and easily could have spent more time.

Overall a lovely stay

The cottage is warm and comfortable and its proximity to Bourton a definite plus. The only reason I put good instead of excellent is because the beds are not king sized as listed (as far as an American king - perhaps UK sizing is different) and although a dryer is listed as an amenity, there is only a washer w/ drying line

Christmas Bliss

Escaped the crazy, and embraced peace. The Barn is a perfect place to unwind. Clean, spacious, with a well equipped kitchen and comfy beds. Located in a quiet cul de sac in a small hamlet miles from the noise; and yet within a short drive to good pubs and country shops. This is an our second Christmas at The Barn. It’s a gem.

Stunning property

A girlfriend and I wanted a few days R and R. This stunning property and location fitted the bill. The beds were so comfortable! Felt cocooned for a few days. Just what we needed. Would recommend the property to anyone wanted to get away from it all. Only downside was the check in process as it was dark by 4pm. We struggled to find the property despite good directions and then found we could not see very well to open the key box.

Absolutely wonderful

I stayed here with a friend for 4 nights - we were exploring the Cotswold's area. The Barn is a delightful place to stay and much impressed my American visitor. It is exquisitely furnished with many lovely touches and is clean as clean can be. The host was responsive and access was easy. The heating worked and the beds were so comfortable. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay here. It is a small quiet village, but easy access (by car) to all Cotswold towns and villages. A gift for walkers - access to many paths from the house. Thank you Janey for sharing this wonderful property.

Perfect Cotswolds stay

The Barn is nestled in a quiet Cotswold community away from the more tourist-heavy towns. All the amenities are present. The property is beautifully furnished, comfortable, and allows for off-street parking behind a gate. We would definitely choose the Barn should we again decide to visit the Cotswolds area. There are plenty of places to explore off the main roads, (which we felt were too narrow for the allowed speed of 60 MPH, so we kept to about 30 when driving the area, as people are walking dogs and wildlife is often present). While exploring, we found the view of neighboring farms to be spectacular, and bought fresh eggs and honey from roadside stands. It's about a 10 minute drive from the Barn to larger communities for dinner, shopping, etc. A truly perfect place!!
