Burton in Lonsdale nestles on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Burton has been called both ’the first and last village in Yorkshire’, tucked into the hillside above the River Greta, and at the cusp of the county boundaries of both Lancashire and Cumbria. There are a number of amenities all within walking distance, including a village shop run by the community, children’s park, and the picturesque All Saints Church.

Burton in Lonsdale is a short drive away from Ingleton, where you will find the infamous Ingleborough Cave, Ingleton Waterfall and an outdoor swimming pool. Ingleton is another beautiful Yorkshire village boasting some unique shops, bars and restaurants.

A short drive in the other direction will take you to the small, but perfectly formed, market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. The town is notably home to the 14th century Devil’s Bridge, as well as Ruskin’s View, which inspired a painting by artist JMW Turner in 1822. It is becoming increasingly popular for it’s independent shops, and you will be spoilt for choice for places to dine out. Burton in Lonsdale is perfectly placed between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Parks, making it a perfect base to all that the area has to offer.

Henry House can be booked together with William House (ref UK39787) to accommodate up to 8 guests.

Beautiful former methodist chapel in great location.

Beautiful former methodist chapel in great location. No pub within walking distance but local grocery store across the road. Ingleton is a short drive away as are some great locations for hiking. The cottage is spacious with good sized bedrooms and bathrooms. It is plenty big enough for 4 adults. The kitchen is a good size and well equipped with a large dining table, which is good if four of you want to play games! We found the cottage a little cool at times, but unfortunately the heating is pre-set and you are unable to adjust it. The bathroom radiators were not on at all for our 4 night stay. Not a deal breaker but still......... The building is old with lovely high ceilings and must cost a lot to heat properly in the winter. Our main criticism with this cottage was the difficulty getting help when we found TV and wifi didn't work after we tried everything to get them working. The (mostly helpful) information booklet at the property sent us to the confirmation email for the owner's number to ring in emergencies. On checking the 3 emails we had received none had a phone number. Doing a little research we found out who the owner is and contacted them via email and Instagram about the TV and wifi on the first morning, but he didn't get back to us until the last day. We were told simply that they should be working. Call me a sceptic but I doubt it was a coincidence that they worked when we next tried them both!Although disappointed we didn't let the lack of TV and wifi spoil our stay in this lovely cottage.
