Independent, Luwan - Xintiandi Hotels

I have been staying here for some years. I've written reviews before and now I'm doing it again because this hotel just keeps delivering the best hotel experience I have had anywhere in the world and I do travel extensively. In some respects it is quirky, but in a very nice way that makes it more endearing and my home away from home. I take this opportunity to also thank the hotel manager Serge van Vegten. You are in a class of your own. Well done!

While the best feature of the hotel is it's unbeatable location, the hotel itself is also one of the best I've ever stayed. Great beds, a beyond luxurious bathroom and very friendly staff. I would recommend this hotel to both travelers and business types.

I stayed there for 7 days, room was nice and clean ( i got the deluxe room which includes access to the gym and breakfast buffet).... most of the hotel staff knows enough english to be able to help you out, if there is a staff member who does not understand you they will quickly rush to get someone that can speak english. they have good american food at the breakfast buffet on the 4th floor, also room service has good food like pizza pasta and also traditional chinese dishes. everything is very safe and secure i didn't feel un safe at any time.... they also have a very nice gym(with a view of the whole city) that you have access to....the have a massage spa at the hotel as well... they have a little store right in front ( similar to 7 eleven or circle k) and a coffe shop in the rear of the hotel.... you have everything you need right there, i felt very safe walking around the streets in that area at all times of the night... overall good experience, i loved the stay there

Excellent location, friendly front desk Staff, very comfortable room with sitting area and desk. The alley that another reviewer mentioned is actually quite nice and a great view into the real shanghai--that is, the clean, safe back streets where well off shanghainese live! The hotel also had a baby crib in the room per my request via expedia and at 11pm when I asked if they knew a fruit stand where I could buy bananas for my baby's breakfast, one of the staff offered to go and buy. I told him I only needed $1.50 worth and came back at 11:20p with a bunch of bananas and wouldn't accept any a tip. I speak Chinese so that helped but the story gives you an idea of the kindness of the staff. Will go back again and again if price stays at similar level.

After i booked at the hotel i had lot of doubts regarding the hotel, but i finally decided to go and experience the hotel. My stay at the Jithai hotel was excellent. The rooms were good price was good and more over its location was excellent everything was so easily accessible. Staffs are very helpful but the only problem is English speaking. But the staff is so good that they actually take effort to understand your need and full fill them. Over the entire hotel get 100%.

Great location and 1st class room - clean, good size and friendly staff

I really liked this hotel It is simple and easy to find and has nice basic services. They have great prices and I liked the simple business breakfast. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic close to subay

I know this looks like a nice cheap hotel in the pictures but this is not the case- I'm sure the pictures were taken at least 30 years ago. The hotel is disgusting and old. In our bedroom when we arrived, I'm sure if the floor had been swept. After a few days, we wanted out sheets changed so we took the sheets and covers off, only to reveal wee stains all over the duvet and the bed. Also, the bed was hard as nails. I think it was just wood in the middle of it. When new sheets were put on, they too were stained and had holes in them- they also weren't ironed (maybe I'm asking for too much here?) The walls were also peeling at every point. The cleaning staff were friendly, although they did not understand any English. And the reception staff also did not understand any English so we stopped asking them for help as they couldn't and didn't seem to want to help us. My honest review is that, unless you're a backpacker looking desperately for somewhere to stay, do not stay here.
