We stayed in a double room with shared bathroom - in room number 5. Would recommend people to not request room 5 as I can imagine other rooms would have been more comfortable. Room 5 is kind of isolated, right next to the reception room and quite far from the toilets/showers in that you have to go downstairs then up different stairs. Room lighting was also quite dark. There are signs to keep quiet after 10.30pm but it was the manager and his friends who were the noisiest after that time which was ironic. Generally though it was a comfortable stay and felt clean.

Thanks very much for taking the time to leave us your feedback - we've already put a brighter bulb in the room thanks to it :-) Our Economy Double room is indeed further from bathrooms than our standard Doubles, but does mean we ask less for it for those prioritising their budget. Whilst we do like being a small and sociable lodge, making sure our guests get a good night's sleep is absolutely a priority and we do take it very seriously so it's not alright that it carried to your room and we're sorry we could've done better! Glad you liked our clean and comfy home-away-from-home though and hope we can welcome you in again some day!

Great accommodation- clean, comfortable, relatively easy to find, and access via bus routes (including one stop only a brief walk away). Very nice people- both staff and fellow visitors. Would definitely stay again.

Great Little Hostel
I booked two separate one night stays and they kept me in the same room without a request. The staff is friendly, the Lodge clean. My room was very comfortable, with a double bed, TV and wireless. The only little problem was due to my not really reading the fine print. I did not realize it did not have an en suite toilet, which my 60-year-old prostrate would have preferred. Since it is a small hostel with only five rooms and one dorm, it was quiet, peaceful, and relaxing.

Inexpensive, handy, good vibes
I needed a quick overnight bed in the Woolston area. Haka Lodge did that, at a really attractive price. Friendly staff, the dorm more comfortable and pleasant than I was expecting. Handy to get to (direct bus to the airport is on Ferry Rd just a block away).

The dividing walls make our dorm feel like a private room. Being close to the airport bus is super handy as a lot of our guests are in Christchurch flying in or out. Kind regards,

Great friendly staff, room comfortable.
We enjoyed so very much our first night in Christchurch staying in Haka Lodge. The staff were excellent, friendly and accommodating. The lodge is close to facilities such as shops etc, and is quite lovely inside. We found it very warm and inviting. There were many brochures to enable travellers to find local points of interest, together with further suggestions for more distant areas in New Zealand. Very highly recommend this lovely spot ... would stay there again anytime!

Nice place but as alcohol allowed for teens !!
Separate portion was good but as I need a single room & they insisted to have twin including lounge so out of my limited budget..

As we are a very popular, small establishment we cannot guarantee the room of your choice or budget will be available unless you book in advance unfortunately. Good value for the price.
It was just a room. No ensuite. Shared bathrooms of which one was not working. Guess it's good value for the price tag. The shared kitchen, living room etc was good and chilled out. You'll love the place provided you are in the <30 age bracket! I would definitely recommend it to my younger friends.

Hotel meets Hostel
An amazing place to stay if you have a car and want to be close to the city without having to be IN the city. The property is quaint and feels private. Directions to the lodge could be better with clearly marked signage. This lodge is an amazing merge between fancy house/comfortable inn/Hostel so it's perfect for my kind of stay :). Mahalo!

Television and heater not working. Room was not clean. Bathroom outside of room was often full. In other words, ratio of bathroom to guests was not considered. Kitchen area was dirty. The sign was not well lit and finding it in the dark and heavy rain downpour was not easy. I will not recommend this to any of my friends!

Great hostel a bit far from downtown
This is a great hostel. Not close to downtown but I had a car so it wasn't a problem. Rooms were clean and the staff is very nice.

It was so far from the airport that I could have stayed in one of the more expensive hotels and not pay as much for taxi fares to and from the "hotel"/backpacker lodge! Taxi fares cost me as much as "hotel" fares!This caused me not be such a happy person

Low cost low service
Small room with shared bathroom. We were greeted with an envelope with my name on it and had to let ourselves in, I was disappointed in the lack of customer service and we decided to only stay one night. The room was clean but we were not provided with towels for the shower and the two small bathrooms were not enough for the amount of people staying there. It was okay for a budget backpackers lodge but we won't be going back.

Convenient backpackers

Hi Murray, Thanks for your review. I'm very sorry to hear you didn't have hot water for one of your showers. We have Gas hot water, so it does run out when the bottle runs out, however this a very quick fix as we always have a spare bottle ready to go. Thanks for your comments about finding the Lodge at night. We are looking into some more lights/signage, so it's easier to see from the road. Expected staff to be more helpful
Nice lodge but I expected the staff to be more helpful and friendly since they do supposedly run this amazing tour around the country. Instead of being helped we were forwarded to the local iSite who were amazing :)

Great backpacker accomodation, free wifi
Good location a bit outside of city centre with free street parking. Free wifi. TV in room. Comfi living room with large TV and a lot of good TV channels. Clean and well equipped kitchen.

Beautiful room - better than a hotel!
I was in a gorgeous double room, with amazing patio access. Close to market and casual food, full newly done kitchen. Very very pleased with this place, great value for Christchurch. Probably need a car with this location though, but parking was easy and plentiful.

Just what we needed
Just needed a place to stay for the night. Near a handful of take-aways. Private room was comfortable, right across the hall from clean and tidy shared toilet and shower. Heater in room worked great! TV in room, a plus.

Very nice and quiet!!
In general, the hotel is good, nice room, very suitable for backpackers, couples and students. One thing I want to mention is that the hotel do not the option of "pay advance", however, the Expedia did give out the option of "pay advance" which troubled me. My girlfriend and I arrived and thought we already paid, but actually we didn't. Quiet unpleasant when you're ready to check in, but they ask for money. I blame this to the website of course, overall it was a very nice stay in Christchurch that night.

Perfect for business stop overs
Exactly what it says on the tin. Great for a cheap place to stay, close by things to eat, friendly staff. Perfect for business stop overs on a budget or students/travellers around New Zealand. Quick wifi too.
