Spring brings comfortable temperatures and the spectacular cherry blossoms, particularly around the Philosopher's Path and the grounds of Nanzen-ji Temple. The area is filled with soft pinks and whites, making it a wonderful time for leisurely strolls and photography.

Autumn offers cooler weather and stunning foliage, with the maple trees turning brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold. This is especially noticeable at temples like Eikan-do Zenrin-ji and around the paths leading up to Mount Hiei. It's an ideal time for those who enjoy hiking and exploring the natural landscapes.

For travellers who prefer to avoid larger crowds, visiting in late May or early September can still offer good weather with slightly fewer visitors than the peak cherry blossom or autumn colour periods.
