Old Hut
Scott and Sharon's Old Hut was quirky and charming. They have put in of thought and attention to detail and the result is a fun, unique and comfy place to stay. It is handy to lots of interesting places, both free and touristy. Scott and Sharon were friendly and had lots of great suggestions about where to go and what to see. Highly recommended!

Wonderful stay

Great place to relax and unwind
Friendly hosts have made a special place for a relaxing stay with lots of kiwi history and items used throughout the hut that make it a fun and interesting time.

Rustic Retreat
Fun place to stay with 50s styling and relaxed outdoor living. Super cosy bed in the cabin. Friendly, welcoming hosts. Everything you need for an 'off-grid' weekend in the countryside.

Fabulous stay
Loved the thought that had gone into planning and repurposing items for use in the hut. Even though we had a lot of rain, we could still sit and enjoy watching the birds, sheep and cows in the paddocks. The rustic charm was a very pleasant change from places we usually stay and would definitely return here again.

Great spot for an off the grid stay
We only spent one night, but we had a great short stay and would have loved to stay longer. We loved the history and personal touches that Scot put into the cabin. Sitting by the fire drinking a glass of wine and watching the sheep walk round was a lovely way to spend an evening. Absolutely recommend this spot to stay if you're looking for somewhere away from the city!

Cool amd quirky
Beautifully restored historic property. Had all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay (including an amazing claw foot cast iron bathtub). Visited just a short time but truly enjoyed the experience and wish we could have stayed longer.

A heap of character
Great rustic little glamping spot, quiet and cozy. Everything you need to go glamping, away from the stress of modern day living. Great hosts. Will have to come back!

Cute Cabin
So nice to have some time away with my sister. Off the grid, sitting by the fire looking up at the stars. You have all the essentials but none of the mod-cons which is perfect

Highly recommend staying here!
As a birthday treat, we decided to get away for the night and we are so glad we chose the old Brett road Shepard's hut. Despite the rain the hut was so nice and cosy and the bed was so comfortable to sleep in. The living area is handcrafted to perfection with character which we loved. The place was so clean, Scott and Shona were so lovely and welcoming, and we opted to order the extra breakfast which was so yummy. All up we had the best time and we plan to return during summer for another get away. Thank you so much for the hospitality.

Awesome
A wonderful bookabach stay. Although a short overnight stay we really enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and privacy. Well stocked, cosy and had everything we could need. We especially enjoyed gazing up at the stars through the skylight window. We would love to visit again and would definitely recommend to all.

Sad to leave
I wish we could've stayed longer at this delightful little spot. I would've enjoyed building a fire in the wood burning stove, or a soak in the huge bath, or more time to sit outside with a hot drink and enjoy the serene surroundings. Shona and Scott have put so much loving detail into every aspect of the Shepherd's Hut, like the mug hooks made of antlers and vintage road signs and print ads that adorn the walls. Small details like beach towels for soaking in the hot springs, spices/oils for cooking and fresh milk/snacks were unexpected but so appreciated. We really hope to return the next time we are in NZ.

We found the property to be amazing with wonderful amenities for an off grid stay. Scott and Shona were great hosts and left us to make the most of the location. The amenities are a credit to their skills. We would definitely stay again if in that area of New Zealand

Our stay was for a few days in Feb 2023. We had everything we could possibly want including quaint touches ; flowers , sheep grazing , sparkling clean facilities and comfy beds . There was plenty of hot water for big long baths , a fireplace , plenty of space to prepare meals . plenty of room to hang out even during Cyclone Gabrielle ! The location is so beautiful set in quiet farmland but super convenient to Rotorua and Taupo . We were looked after with respect and care by Shona and Scott . Thanks guys . Very memorable holiday .

We had a wonderful experience. The room was clean and comfortable, and Shona and Scott were friendly and helpful. The location was great with easy access to local attractions. I would definitely recommend this place to others and we plan to stay there again in the future. Overall, a great stay!

Escaping from modern life
If you want to detox from the busy modern day life, this is it! Completely off grid, but all the charm of glamping. A renovated and restored gypsy caravan with a rustic well appointed kitchen and a bathroom is all you need in a restful peaceful setting. Such a joy to get away from schedules and busy lifestyles. A chance to recharge your batteries. We absolutely loved it.

You need to see it to believe it
This property completely exceeded our expectations. Such a quaint, peaceful place and every detail the owners put into it will draw your eyes! We had such a good time and regretted not booking for longer. One of our best stays when visiting New Zealand and full of history! Just amazing, the description and photos of the property do no justice to how amazing the place actually is.

A unique and funky stop overnight stop.

A gorgeous getaway
Such a treasure! We stopped in for a night to break up a big journey and it was the loveliest time! Our hosts were wonderful and the place is super cosy with lots of treats. Highly recommend!

Glad we chose this lovely spot!
This hut had so much - like a luxury glamping experience. Lovely hot bath with lots of goodies to add to it, treats in the kitchen, generously equipped with towels, extra bedding, lots of interesting and creative touches and everything we needed. Shona and Scott are really kind and interesting people who know the area well and were happy to share as much or as little as we needed. We were so pleased we decided to stay, and plan to return soon.

Highlight of Rotorua

We had the most relaxing amazing off grid chillax.
Our experience here was truly worth it. A lot of thought and care went into this building. The area was quiet and nice walks along the quiet country road. Not to far from Rerewhakaaitu lake for trout fishing. For us it was a very restful experience. The hosts were welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. Thanks for a pleasant stay

Amazing rustic getaway
