"I had a single room with balcony, was clean and big enough for 1 person. Breakfast was great, buffet style and I managed to get a table next to the window every morning. I was on the 6th floor so the view from my balcony was great."

"We enjoyed our stay at By the Sea. The owner Matthew was welcoming and friendly and helped us with our luggage to the top floor up two flights of stairs. The whole property was spotless and our room (no 6) was very comfortable with a sea view. The only inconvenience was that we had a bath with a handheld shower head for hair washing not for overall bathing. This was stated on the website, however, and I just hadn’t realised. Breakfast items had to be chosen the night before and there were hot and cold choices. Everything was nicely cooked on the day. I would have liked some preserves for the toast though as well as the butter on offer. Unfortunately there weren’t many restaurants in the vicinity but we did find one fairly near by along the prom which suited our purposes."

"The hotel looks nice as you enter, and location is beautiful with a sea front view, but overall, not well kept. Door latches and toilet holders falling off, stains on the walls, dirty carpeting. King size bed was comfortable, but the room was drabby and unpleasant. I wouldn't stay here, again."

"The bar wasn't open and there was no facilities for breakfast. Even the option of having cereals you could help yourself to and a toaster to make toast would have been good. My room was adequate but the shower cubicle was broken and the shower itself was attached to the wall and could only be used by hand. The bathroom wasn't very clean either. When I told the staff I wasn't happy they weren't interested and didn't bother until I said I was leaving early to offer another room."
