Hotel was very clean, comfortable, and friendly staff. They did not have laundry so we had to go to another hotel to do our laundry. The restaurant in the hotel closes between 9pm and 10pm. But A great Italian restaurant across the street was open until late. This hotel is a great location and loved the lobby.
This residence is located right above Ghirardelli Square. Alcatraz is right across the bay and the views from the balcony were fantastic! Everything you could need or want is provided...including a washer and dryer in one of the closets. Every evening music would drift up from the Square...very good artists and lovely sounds. A fireplace adds a nice touch, and there are two TV's with DirecTV. The valet service will take good care of your car, and this is great because parking in SF is at a premium. The staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. One could not ask for anything more.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the Holiday Inn Express had practically everything I could want in a hotel. The staff was friendly; the lobby was clean, modern and welcoming; the room was just as clean, with a very comfy bed. Perhaps best of all is the hotel's location--just a few blocks from the Wharf, and Pier 39, the Aquatic park, various bus and streetcar stops, a grocery store (Safeway), and numerous other notable places. We really could not have stayed in a better area for seeing the most sights in SF. Plus their included breakfast was tasty and varied--not "cafeteria" quality at all.
PS, there isn't a pool. That might be obvious to people, and they don't say they DO have one, but somehow I got the notion that basically every hotel has one and stupidly packed trunks and sandals that went unused. So just in case someone else made the same assumption, I figured I'd mention it. They do have a gym though, if you're into that.
Excellent place to stay 1 block from The Wharf, lots of great Resturants and shops to buy goodies all within the same block of the hotel....would make sure room was on opposite side of the hotel next time, NO air conditioning due to it being a older hotel, left windows open since they are smaller, heard every noise, car and motorcycle go by and people talking during the night!!! NO breakfast offered but had coffee, hot chocolate and hot tea available in the lobby...Very friendly and helpful front desk staff..
Sea lions bask in the sun by Pier 39's shops at Fisherman's Wharf. Nearby, Ghirardelli Square's chocolate factory gives a taste of the sweet life. At Pier 33, boats depart for Alcatraz. The city and Golden Gate Bridge gleam atop Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill. Literature thrives at the famed City Lights book store in North Beach. Washington Square Park is the heart of this historic Italian enclave.
