While we enjoyed our stay, we did find quite a lack of ambience this time, have stayed in the past. Also, while we understand hotels are under pressure to go very eco now, one small soap in bathroom, other bottled shampoo, etc, moisturizer, we usually use the hotel ones as they are usually lovely even though we take our own, but we found these ones to be a bit underwhelming. We also went out and came back late, didn't have dessert at the restaurant we went to as decided we would have something at the hotel later. The room service menu did not run beyond 11.30pm on a Sunday, which was that night. We ended up walking into the CBD to buy a sweet treat. The other thing we found was with only glasses, two tea cups with no saucers and two teaspoons we had no crockery to put a cake on and no knife to cut it. I understand we can request anything we need, but it would be nice to have a saucer or plate there. Also only four tea bags, and while I know you can ask for more, I have never seen such a sparse room in terms of basics. We usually stay at IHG but sometimes have a change, and chose Hilton because we had previously stayed and enjoyed the balcony and waterfront aspect. For a five star hotel that boasts luxury, it was lacking. I have a Hilton membership but redeemed through Hotels.com, and paid $300 on top to stay here, room nearly $600. Breakfast also hit and miss, some items lovely, others near cold and hugely seasoned.
