"What a gem of a find, we stayed for one night whilst travelling from England to Spain. We was warmly greeted on arrival and went straight into the pool after a very long day. The host then prepared a fantastic 3 course home cooked meal with wine. Room was spacious, clean and bed comfy, with a wonderful views over the vineyards. In the morning a lovely prepared breakfast outside and the friendly hosts couldn’t be more accommodating. We will 100% be returning each year as we travel to Spain, thank...

10/10 Excellent

"Lovely hotel in a great location, very quiet and peaceful at night even though centrally located. Breakfast was excellent"

Hotel l'Octroi

8/10 Good

"The room was clean and staff very helpful. However, the room is very small and the bathroom is a wet room, meaning no separate shower from the rest of the bathroom. The shower wand is not user friendly and we didn’t realize when we turned on the water that it lterally sprayed across the room, wetting our bathroom countertop and personal items. No coffee in the room if you like having a cup first thing in the morning."

Résidence Carmina

10/10 Excellent

"The hotel is perfectly situated for visiting the medieval city of Carcassonne. If you are looking for a central hotel at a reasonable price this is the perfect choice. The room was a spacious apartment with separate living/kitchenette and bedroom. The bathroom was spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the apartment was well furnished and clean. The residents of the hotel were friendly and I think it is a good idea to utilise the spare rooms for hotel guests. The hotel had secure parking as well."

Tribe Carcassonne

8/10 Good

"The hotel has a great view of the castle and the roof top bar is definitely a bonus. The room was clean and have everything we needed however the toilet was in what can only be described as a cupboard with no space at all. The decor was too dark so much so that we couldn’t find the light switches! The carpet was black and when we dropped a black hair brush on the floor it took us 10 Minutes to find it!"

Comfort Aparthotel Carcassonne

10/10 Excellent

"This was terrific value for money and would happily stay again. While it's a good 15 mins or so up a hill from the station, for £40 or so, there's nothing at all to complain about- big rooms with cooking facilities, microwave and even a dishwasher should you need it, a lovely swimming pool and staff who were knowlegable and extremely helpful; particularly Guaytan , who couldn't have been more efficient and personable. All in all, very good."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Rieux-Minervois?

The best area to stay in Rieux-Minervois is within the village itself, particularly around the central square and the historic church.

Rieux-Minervois is a small, traditional village in the heart of the Minervois region. The village is compact, with most amenities within easy walking distance. The main roads, such as the D11 and D168, intersect here, making it a convenient base for exploring the surrounding countryside. The highlight is the unique heptagonal (seven-sided) church, Sainte-Marie, which is a focal point of the village.

For couples seeking a relaxing escape, staying within the village offers a delightful experience. You'll be close to local bakeries for fresh breakfast pastries, small restaurants serving regional cuisine, and the weekly market. It's a wonderful base for leisurely walks or cycling through the vineyards.

Families will also find staying in the village appealing. Many holiday rentals offer private gardens or courtyards, providing space for children to play.

When is the best time to go to Rieux-Minervois?

For most travellers, the best time to visit Rieux-Minervois is during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October).

During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm and sunny, making it ideal for exploring the vineyards and villages of the Minervois region. You'll avoid the intense heat of mid-summer and the cooler, sometimes wet, conditions of winter. This period also generally sees fewer crowds than the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed experience at popular sites and restaurants.

Couples looking for a romantic and scenic getaway will particularly appreciate these shoulder seasons. The landscape is at its most beautiful, with lush greenery in spring and the rich colours of the harvest season in autumn.
