Spend time in this relaxed city in the south of France. It offers something to engage family members from youngest to oldest.

Nestled along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, Narbonne in France’s Languedoc region has attractions and activities to keep family members interested and entertained. Go to its large beach without feeling crowded, walk along the canal or be entertained at the numerous fairs and shows throughout the year.

During the Roman period, Narbonne was the capital of the region. The city lives up to its historic past with a multitude of museums. Discover these museums and more at your leisure through a free guide downloaded to your smartphone. Immerse yourself in the region’s culinary specialties, which include the important wine industry marked by two AOC designations from vineyards near Narbonne.

For gastronomic pleasures, visit Les Halles de Narbonne. This beautiful market building that opened in 1901 has about 70 vendor stalls and is a perfect place to try bouchons du Languedoc, the traditional sweet cake of Narbonne. Join in the fervor and activity of this daily market that provides the materials for meals to be prepared later in the day in kitchens across the city.

Tour Narbonne’s landmark, Cathédrale Saint Just et Saint Pasteur de Narbonne, a Gothic 14th-century cathedral that dominates the old city centre and is one of the largest in the south of France. It doesn’t have a nave because a Roman wall stood where it was supposed to be built and the barrier was considered more important for defensive reasons.

Narbonne is rich in the arts, with events and live theatre occurring throughout the year. Become part of the audience at street celebrations and music festivals that can last all night. Attend cabarets, ballroom dancing, concerts in a Cistercian abbey and DJ events on the beach.

Make the Narbonne Plage Beach Resort your centre for keeping informed about what’s happening for all ages in this seaside community. Take a train from Paris or fly to Marseille and drive to Narbonne to see the south of France in a natural environment.
