"We stayed for just one night but it one of those places that is very ‘hawaii.’ While it’s not a Four Seasons, but the rooms were comfy, the scenery was stunning and the breakfast was simple but oh-so-fresh (fruits, eggs, toast and the tastiest coffee). Be ready for some nature in the rooms - we had a few geckos visit us as well as a frog hiding in the toilet (he escaped just fine!) - the staff is such a delight and eating breakfast on the lanai was perfect."

"Our stay was excellent! The house was very clean inside and out and well equipped for us. Had gear to use for beach trips (snorkels, coolers, umbrella), books and games to keep us busy inside when Lala came around and a wonderful outdoor space for enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery. Communication with our host was great and helped us feel better about being there when unprecedented weather during our stay brought about an emergency declaration. We would absolutely stay with this host again."

"After spending time on Oahu and Maui in hotels and condos, we were hoping to experience a little of the “real Hawaii.” Pu’uhonua House did not disappoint us. The location in the community of Captain Cook let us live like locals for the days we were there. The house itself is unique and obviously cared for. Our party of 9 had plenty of room. The kids (7 and 9) loved the loft. The house was even well stocked, which was unexpected and much appreciated. The best part of the house was the open decks that circle each floor. The views over the lush jungle all the way down to the coast were amazing and the constant cool breeze was soothing. We were concerned that we would regret (1) no A/C (2) bugs (3) noisy frogs; but none of those were a problem. And of course we knew we would love the little green lizards that visited every day. We were incredibly lucky that our visit coincided with Kilauea’s eruption, which made our time on the Big Island—frankly—magical. Mahalo, Bruce, for an unforgettable vacation."

"This is a really cool property. We had a hard time finding somewhere big enough for our multigenerational group. This house gave us plenty of space to spread out. The grounds are huge and the kids enjoyed exploring and finding different fruits. The host is great, super responsive and helpful. Was a little concerned about not having central AC but it cools down at night and wasn’t bad with the windows open. The house is secluded so you definitely need a car and be prepared for a lot of driving if you plan to be out of the house."

"Very lovely house, amazing sunset views as it is right off the water. House has everything you need for cooking, even has filtered water for drinking and cooking.Nice to haves, some extra fans as when it is sunny out and no breeze the house can get toasty.A heater for the pool would be nice so it can be used at night time...."

"The house was perfect size for two people wanting to have a quiet time together. The view and sunsets were amazing. The pool is smaller but again perfect size for just two people. Everything in the home was clean. The ice maker was a nice plus."

"Everything was beautiful and fit perfectly for our group. The only thing I wasnt prepared for was the humidity. No AC and the ceiling fans felt like they were set on a lower setting. Cooled down some at night though. Despite the humidity I would still recommend this house. Beautiful view, nice and spacious and the pool was perfect for cooling down."

"We stayed in the location for 10 days July 5-15. The view from the lanai was excellent and the sunsets were beautiful. The master bed room was very roomy and the kitchen was well equipped and fairly well stocked. The second bedroom was a little smaller than we thought, the furniture in the living room is dated and needs to be replaced and needs to be much more comfortable, The drive up and down from the location to the main road is curvy with little railings with bit of a drop off so be sure to get back before dark if possible. It’s a tricky somewhat scary drive at night. It takes about 1 hour to get to Kona and 1;30 to get to Hilo without w lot of shopping areas near the hour! In the summer it’s a little toasty in the house at 3-7 pm even with the fans. It does not cool off from the breeze off the ocean untouched l around 11 pm!"

"Great house and deck. Description of the drive n and out was very accurate. Dining outside on the large table was great for our group. It was easier to get to Volcanos National Park from here than it would have been from Kona."
