Feel the mist of Manoa Falls touch your face as you stand on the edge of its basin. O’ahu’s tallest accessible waterfall is surrounded by a rich ecosystem of plants, flowers and animals. Watch as the water drops 45 metres (150 feet) down a sheer cliff face into the small pool at the bottom. The dramatic scenery was the set of Steven Spielberg's 1993 movie Jurassic Park. As you hike take note of the slow shifts in the type of landscape and plant life that surround you. Look for giant ferns, tall palms and the colourful species of rainforest flowers that line the trail. Sit at the base of the falls to reflect in the stunning scenery you are surrounded with. Bring a picnic to make the most of your time here and be sure to take plenty of photos of the cascade. Visit the park after heavy rain to see the waterfall at its most impressive.

You’ll find great views across the North Shore from the ridge a short walk from the falls. Follow the path to the lookout.

The walk to Manoa Falls will take you approximately 2 hours and is a 3-kilometre (2-mile) round trip. Wear footwear with good support, as the trail is uneven and rocky at times. Mud is common after a heavy downpour so waterproofing your boots is a good idea. Bring mosquito repellent to protect against the insects that love the rainforest conditions. Guides can be organised from within Honolulu and offer additional information about the history and environment of the area.

Access to Manoa Falls is free year-round. Parking is available at the base of the falls for a small charge. A bus also services the falls.
