"Great staff!"
Luau was very entertaining. The early morning preparation of the Kalua pig was educational.

"Very nice rooms but far from the pool"
The room has exceeded my expectations. Very well arranged and furnished, complete with anything I could dream to need during the vacation, great green surrounding, clearly well cared for. The only disadvantage is it is rather far from the pool (half a mile of drive), and the pool is more of the place to hang out with the drink, rather then swim and spend time with kids. There was not much there to do for children, therefore would probably not advice for the family with young kids. I can see though how it would be totally fine for the adults.

"Did not feel like a real Sheraton "
Common areas were nice, but the rooms were really outdated with old showers and popcorn ceilings. Other problems: Coffee and food was average at best. Paid $100 for the Luau and ate food in the rain (wet bread, meat, rice..etc.) because the "resort" didn't have a plan B for when it rains...even though it was on an island where it rains every other day. The place also lacked a lot of details that you would expect from a quality hotels. IE: The coffee in the rooms said "10% Kona blend." Not a big deal if you were in NY or LA, but we were in Kona.

"Unexpected amazement"
We originally stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa village and were scheduled for 10nights. However upon arrival we were unimpressed and had a depressing feeling due to the run down nature of the hotel. It's hard to put a finger on it but felt like an old amusement park. My wife and I decided to tour other resorts. We drove to the Fairmont and we loved it. We also looked at the HapunaPrince and didn't really like it much. We switched our reservation to Fairmont and cancelled the remaining stay at the Hilton. We loved it!! However we were informed that Expedia made a mistake and we had to checkout early. Expedia did give us a free night at the Fairmont so we weren't too upset. We looked at reviews and booked the Mauna Kea. When we arrived we were FLOORED! The setting is magical. This is the Hawaiian vacation we had been looking for. We wish we had come straight to the Mauna Kea. We booked a golf view room and it was the lowest grade room and still it was better than any of the other resorts. The beach is absolutely the best beach I or my wife have been to and we travel ALOT!! The only negative we had was the lady in the tennis center. We needed to borrow tennis shoes and she was unhappy about that. She made snappy comments throughout the checkin/checkout process. Her name was Maria or Mariann or something. If you are working in a resort and customer facing there is no room for rudeness. Everyone else was super nice though.

"Clean, good location"
Great condo, loved the patios, and that we could open both to have a nice cross breeze. Wonderful to hear the ocean at night! Full appliances, and TV with cable and DVD player added to the home feel. Community BBQ was nice to be able to use, and the pools were a nice touch to take a evening dip in. The decor in our unit could have used updating, but it was clean and homey. Good location to commute into Kona, and south. Would stay here again

"Ideal location"
The resort is ideally located, right on the shore and close to the center of Kona. The room was very clean, had a fully equipped kitchen (even a dishwasher), so preparing breakfast and enjoying it on the balcony with the Pacific Ocean right in front of you was very convenient (no breakfast or restaurant on the premises). Notably, Expedia local expert/concierge Chris Grossi was fantastic! His good suggestions for tours and his perfect service made this stay on Hawai'i unforgettable!

"Relaxing Mother's Day weekend"
My husband and I have stayed here with our family at least 3 times. The grandchildren just loves the pool!! We just love the atmosphere. Only complaint was that our room was across the street so we had to walk a distance to get to the pool area. I seen that there are 2 more units being built...hopefully a pool will be in that are because the walk will be even father. Otherwise, great place for a quick getaway if you live on Hawaii Island.
