"Great location!"
The Sofia was a great place to stay! The proximity to The Gaslamp area, Little Italy, the waterfront and many means of transportation made it a very convenient location. We found the hotel to be very charming and well-maintained. The rooms are small but certainly met our needs. We were impressed by the free walking tour and the use of bikes (although we did not have the opportunity to take advantage of that offer). Coffee shops and restaurants were close by and convenient. The hotel staff were friendly, helpful and always available. We would definitely book The Sofia again!

"Nostalgic & quite lovely!"
I loved the hotel’s ambiance and rich history! The inside was beautifully preserved/restored. The room was lovely and nicely done. I especially liked the balcony, it was overlooked the courtyard/atrium that was open and airy…somehow exposed to the elements, which was the benefactor of an absolutely gorgeous day! The staff was cordial, although the restaurant’s waitress (Janet, I believe) and the valet, Jason were particularly pleasant. The only thing lacking, there was no assistance with bags during our evening check-in; and no automatic doors which made the task even more cumbersome. Overall, it's a great place to stay! Loved it!!

"Two Night Stay"
The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was nice and sparkling clean and we had four rooms. Parking was adequate. The self serve breakfast was better than expected and was great for the kids. The only issue that I experienced was my room key card would deactivate a lot. The hotel looks much nicer in person and the pictures online don't capture the really nice quality. I would stay here again.

Great price and location to seaworld. Staff at night was wonderful, day staff were a little rude. They have construction going on so you can't get to everything easily.

"Trendy hotel in the heart of the Gaslamp District."
Trendy hotel in the heart of the Gaslamp District. Only a few blocks away from the San Diego Convention Center. Great restaurants nearby. Staff is warm and welcoming. Housecleaning was prompt. Allow for early check in upon request. Modern facility. Only drawback was the lack of a continental breakfast but the free pineapple cupcakes available in the afternoon are delicious! The option for bike rental is great - a terrific way to get to the zoo (or just a quick bus ride away)

"close to convention center & gas lamp quarter"
Nice hotel, free parking. The walls are thin and it wasn't soundproof. The first night there was a kid crying for two hours at night (after midnight) and kept me up. The second night, people kept going in and out of their room late into the morning hours and the doors kept being slammed and kept us up. The breakfast buffet was great, but very expensive. Otherwise, good access to the convention center and the gas lamp quarter. Staff wasn't sure where the stairs were, so that was a bit scary.

"Nice hotel with a view"
My wife and I were there on business from Thursday to Sunday. Our room was fabulous with a balcony overlooking the bay. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. There was a microwave and refrigerator. The staff was nice and friendly. We had a free made to order breakfast every morning downstairs and snacks and cocktails in the evening. I highly recommend this hotel.

Where to Stay in San Diego?

If you like sunshine, golden beaches, palm trees, and year-round gorgeous weather, then pack your bags for San Diego, California. This vibrant city offers you the perfect getaway, with plenty of culture and a sizzling nightlife as spicy as those signature tacos you must sample.

San Diego is the second largest city in California and offers miles and miles of welcoming coastline. You can easily spend your entire trip sunbathing on the warm sand, tip-toeing into the cool Pacific, paddle boarding, taking a surf lesson, or kayaking around the fantastic La Jolla coves, where you’ll get to greet the local sea lion colonies.

Of course, San Diego has many other adventures to offer, too. Take your children—or just yourself—to the San Diego Zoo, one of the largest and most diverse zoos in the world. While you’re at the zoo, walk around the adjacent Balboa Park. You’ll enjoy viewing the beautiful Spanish buildings and checking out the many different museums, including the popular San Diego Museum of Art and San Diego Natural History Museum.

When the sun goes down, make your way back into the heart of San Diego. The famous Gaslamp Quarter offers copious ethnic cuisine and plenty of amusing people-watching. You can toast drinks at rooftop bars, check out a Padres game in nearby Petco Park, or dance your heart out in a local club. For fans of craft brewing, San Diego is your playground. Considered the “Craft Beer Capital of the World,” you can’t throw a stone without hitting a famous brewery—but don’t throw stones when you can stop for a pint at Stone Brewery instead.

    San Diego Accommodation

San Diego accommodation comes in many forms. Live in the lap of luxury at one of many San Diego beach resorts, or keep things simple at a local motel or one of the city’s welcoming hostels. You can also book family hotels in San Diego near your favourite attractions. Just be aware that if you plan on visiting the city during the annual Comic-Con convention in July, hotel rooms will be in incredibly short supply.

    Getting to San Diego

San Diego is served by the heavily trafficked San Diego International Airport (SAN), just 4.8 km from downtown. The heart of downtown San Diego is walkable, but many activities, like the zoo, major golf courses, and wine country are farther away, so a booking a car hire in San Diego might be a good option. In the city, try to take at least one ride on the historic trolley. To get to other locations a little farther afield, you can also book a ride on one of the regional rail systems or bus lines.
