"Overall, an adequate option to stay for a few nights to save money, which comes with trade-offs. Advantages: Half the cost of hotel options. Close to restaurants, sights, and the O train for transit. 24/7 desk for help. Mattress was ok -- better than expected for university residence. Disadvantages (trade-offs for low cost): Heating/cooling is centrally controlled. It was really hot in Ottawa and so cold in the room that I slept in a fleece top and fleece leggings with a blanket. The toilet was flushing weakly and was partially clogged when I arrived. It would over-fill (not overflow) and then slowly drain. I left a note for housekeeping, but it wasn't fixed. No amenities in the room that would be standard in a hotel like kettle, mugs, and hair dryer. Evacuation: after a 12-hour day, I returned to my room and 10 minutes later, the fire alarm sounded. Everyone evacuated and we waited 30 min outside before we could go back in. I overheard on the firefighters' radio that there was no fire, but a lot of smoke from someone's microwave. You're sharing the building with students with evidently limited cooking experience and I'd now expect that such an incident is more likely at a student residence than in a hotel."

"The property is exquisite, very clean, well maintained, and beautifully presented. The rooms were excellent, with comfortable beds and a modern, spacious bathroom. Most of the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The location is within walking distance of the famous ByWard Market, which is convenient; however, the surrounding area has a noticeable number of homeless individuals and people begging on the sidewalks. This made walking around less pleasant, and it’s important to note that the neighborhood is not as clean or polished as the hotel itself. Breakfast at the hotel was delicious, though quite pricey. On one of the mornings, service was very slow, likely due to staffing challenges given the number of guests, which was disappointing. Parking is also expensive. I would have expected complimentary parking at a hotel of this level. We were fortunate to secure a spot on-site; otherwise, we would have had to use one of the public parking lots several blocks away. If you’re visiting during peak season, I recommend arriving a few hours before check-in and asking reception for a parking pass as early as possible. Overall, it’s a beautiful hotel with great amenities, but the surrounding area and some service limitations are worth keeping in mind."

"Few upgrades needed: -fridge is noisy - towels are not soft - TV needs upgrade Overall the place is excellent with its location. There is Farm boy grocery store few blocks away. The parliament is walking distance even for seniors. Dollarama close by. The unit is equipped with daily needs as a suite."

"Check in was appalling. Took 2 hours to get our bags to our room - they'd been delivered to another room. No real apology for that, to boot! Room was tired - patched wall paper, chips in furniture, stained bath enamel (really the bathroom needed a full refurb); We had a room with a view over the canal and towards the Parliament (room 404) but the windows were filthy. We didn't eat at the restaurant "Zoe" because the reviews were bad, but there are plenty of fine dining restaurants nearby. Checkout was swift and friendly. House keeping staff were excellent. This is a poor Fairmont, trading on the Fairmont name but failing to deliver Fairmont standards that we'd enjoyed at other Fairmont Hotels - eg Seattle, Boston, St Andrews etc. Very disappointing."
