"Pleasant, Humble Hotel"
My wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon and we really liked it. Our "room" was essentially a condo with one bedroom and TWO full bathrooms, which was convenient. It had a full kitchen too, which was nice so we didn't have to eat out every single meal during our trip. The living room area was spacious and our lanai was a nice spot to chill and watch the ocean crash against the rocks. I saw other reviews complaining about the rooms and furnishings being old/outdated. This may be true, but everything was clean and still in good condition. If you're not hung up on having fancy decor then you can get a good deal staying here. One other caveat: we used this hotel as a place to crash at night and in between activities while enjoying all that the Big Island has to offer. If you're just looking for a resort-style hotel to hole up in, or a hotel already on the beach, then this is probably not a good fit for you.

"Convenient location."
This resort is at a very convenient location. The building is a little dated but it serves the purpose. The ocean view is breathtaking and all the staff are exceptional. We will definitely stay here again.

"Aston Shores at Waikoloa, Unit 11- 202"
This was our second stay at the Shores. The grounds and pool area have been well-maintained and are still lovely. Parking was plentiful and convenient to our unit. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, as were the maintenance folks (they promptly responded to an issue with our laundry closet door.) We stayed in building 11, unit 202. The unit was on the second floor and was large and clean with a great lanai, which we enjoyed very much. Overall condition of the unit was decent. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable. The living area furnishings appeared to be more suited for outdoors (seating was uncomfortable and sofa too small to stretch out on.) The kitchen needed updating - appliances appeared to be worn out (inside of dishwasher rusted, loud compressor on the fridge, cracked microwave door) and the cabinets were pretty beat up. Kitchen provisions also weren't great (we wound up purchasing our own skillets and tupperware as well as coffee filters, basic spices, etc.) We were a bit frustrated with the wireless (very slow with limited range.) As others noted, foot traffic can be heard above - we had a heavy footed woman staying above us who liked to stomp around at all hours of the night (I wound up leaving a note on her door.) Overall, we enjoyed the property and would probably stay again - however we would likely go with a third floor or villa unit and rent directly from an owner so we know what we're getting up front.

"Good value condo near beach"
Picked this condo mostly due to price. Traveling with family made having a kitchen for breakfast a must to save some $$$. Condo had a washer and dryer in it which was a pleasant surprise as most places don't have that. Kitchen was stocked with all the stuff needed to cook, all you need to buy is whatever you want to prepare to eat. Room was nice and had an ocean view. Another great thing about this condo was the location, you are able to walk a few minutes and be right in the middle of shops and food.

"An experience worth trying!!"
We had a cute bedroom on the 3rd floor in an old house in a beautiful neighborhood. A full kitchen and all the amenities. A great way to travel. I would definitely do it again. Everything was very clean and quiet. We were quite close to the town of Volcano and the National Park.

"Wonderful B&B with a spectacular view "
Greg and Michael were lovely hosts. We arrived a little earlier than the check in time and Greg made sure we were checked in and settled, that's really great service. They were both friendly and on hand if we had any questions about the property or the local area. Breakfast options were plenty. The quiche was absolutely delicious. Hannah is an absolute gem, she shared knowledge about local hikes, restaurants and information about the area. We would definitely stay again if we have the opportunity to return to the island. The area was nice and quiet so you could really relax.

"Quaint Maile house Cottage"
We booked a room for 1 night as we discovered our accommodations in Pahoa were one day short coming from Hilo. If I were to do it all over again I would have booked our stay in Pahoa first then stayed here, as we had to back track our way past this hotel the second day to make our way to Kona. We had a nice surprise to find that our 1 room booking was actually a whole house! There were 3 bedrooms to choose from and more space than the 2 of us could use. Which was a nice change of pace from the small economy rooms of previous hotels. Lovely yard with coconut trees and lots of beautiful flowers. Wild chickens and some loud neighbors we thought might make it hard to sleep, but the house was very quiet even with the windows open. I suspect due to the foliage and the bedrooms being in the back of the home. Julia the owner was very nice and accommodating. 5 minutes to the Ka'u coffee mill which was excellent, with free coffee and Mac nut samples. 10 minutes to the black sand beach. About a half hour to the volcano national park. Only down side was not any dinner spots near by, but not a big deal when exploring the island or using the full kitchen to eat in. Small market store within 5 minutes.

"Real Gem!"
We stayed at Hamakua Ranch House beginning of January and we absolutely loved it! It is a great place – breathtaking views, tranquil setting, beautiful scenery, immaculate property. Terri and Tim are wonderful hosts; they made us feel at home. They go out of their way to take care of their guests and we felt truly spoiled. We highly recommend it and we can’t wait to go back.
