Wonderful place off the beaten path. Too get there you drive a one lane road though a rain forest like gulch. Although, the house is off the grid, you are not roughing it. They just use solar energy. I only stayed one night but if I stay on the Hilo side again for 1 day or a week, this is the first place I'll consider. A terror value. The breakfast is good, too!

My sister and I came in for a few days while also visiting Hilo for a few days. Seaside was very accommodating and the employees really went out of their way to make sure we had plenty of coffee and condiments. We got to walk Ali'i drive and shop, walk across the street to the beach. Enjoyed the view and slept comfortably.
We were staying on the other side of the island but wanted to stay one night closer to the volcanoes. We booked our room but when we drove up I thought "Oh no! It was an older hotel in only who knows what condition." I found out what condition after we checked in and went to our rooms. It is an older hotel in brand new condition! Everything was in excellent condition. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the staff friendly and helpful. It was a pleasure staying there.
If you're looking for a typical post-card tourist trip to Hawaii, stay in Kona. Uncle Billy's Hilo embodies the Hawaii of yesteryear. If you want to experience what Hawaii was like before radical over development started destroying the islands, this is a great place to be.
If you want serenity, this is the place. The house is on the top of the hill overlooking Hilo. There are only 4 rooms for rent. We knew other people were staying there but we never heard anyone. The room was clean & the bathroom had been recently updated. We will definitely stay here again.
Arron's has two main attributes. First of all, it's a pleasure to sit out on a back porch sipping coffee, or the beverage of your choice, while gazing at a real Hawaiian backyard. In this place you don't feel boxed in. Even the room was roomy. The second attribute was the positive treatment we received from our hosts---the innkeepers Alan and Penne. They made us feel welcome and they helped us get the most from our visit to Hilo. Let me add a few other things. They provide unlimited coffee, a quality breakfast, and an amazing beach that is within walking distance. The facility could use some refurbishing but it is clean and comfortable.
My studio room was gorgeous and spacious. The view from the pool is astounding! I woke up early and walked down to the black sand beach and enjoyed it all to myself. Just don't forget to take food with you!
