"Amazing old school Japanese hotel. Built by a railroad company almost a 100 years ago; the train you take there was built to get to this hotel. Artwork from the 1600’s on display. Staff shook my hand when I checked out. Even had beautiful stationery in the room; your iPhone spellcheck doesn’t even recognize that word anymore"

"One of the highlights of my trip. This is a very special place where the staff could not have been more warm and helpful. We booked the half board for 2 nights and the food was very traditional, high level Japanese cuisine which didn’t completely suit our teenagers (just something to be aware of) but the service was superb and the facilities (hot baths and room) amazing."

"While this is an older hotel, it is clean, things are in working order, and rather charming and unique. For example, I had a large room with a small patio that offered a beautiful view of the city. It’s in a quaint quiet town with gorgeous views of the mountains surrounding the town. I appreciated the thoughtful touch of hot green tea. The thermos amazingly kept the water hot even till the next morning. Because I went during « low » season in May, I was able to enjoy the onsen to myself ! The host/owner is a sweet man. It is rather expensive for one night but I did not regret my stay. I did get plenty of exercise being on the fourth floor with no elevator."

"Location is incredible, especially if traveling by train/bus. The hotel is 2 minute walk from station. There is a Lawson's very nearby as well. The staff is very nice, and the hotel was very quiet. They have free drinks, snacks daily in the lounge. I mistakenly mixed up our checkout date and didn't realize until after we were supposed to have checked out. The staff was VERY understanding and they allowed us to book an additional night at the same rate we already had. I would definitely stay here again."
