The premium location is superb — convenient access to key areas, stunning views, and a luxurious atmosphere right in the heart of the city. Friendly staff made the stay even better. "Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the Shanghai Marriott Marquis. The location is excellent and makes it a great base for exploring the city. Our room was a good size and offered the level of comfort you'd expect from a Marriott property. That said, there were a few areas that could be improved. Housekeeping was a little inconsistent. On more than one occasion, the soap or shower gel dispensers weren't refilled, and some glass surfaces still had water marks, as though they had only been wiped over quickly. These are relatively minor issues, but they're not what you'd expect from a hotel of this standard. The concierge team could also be more proactive. A warmer welcome and a few more smiles would make guests feel much more valued. Unfortunately, the member of staff responsible for arranging taxis was particularly rude to my wife, which was disappointing and something I hope management addresses. One thing that genuinely surprised me was that the final bill was calculated using the exchange rate on the day of checkout rather than check-in. I'd recommend paying upfront if possible, unless you're happy to take the risk that exchange rates move in your favour. Finally, be aware that the hotel's laundry service is exceptionally expensive. I'd strongly recommend using one of the many local laundries instead, as you'll save a significant amount. Despite these criticisms, the hotel still provides the quality and comfort you'd expect from Marriott and I would return."

"The host, Vivien, is excellent and considerable. He keyed us to change the unit after we expressed our preference. He responded to our requests promptly. The unit is located next to a river with sidewalks at each bank. In the morning, you can see people jogging or biking. It’s in the walking distance to The Bund and People’s Square where the crowds and stores are. Most important is the metro is only 10 min of walk to let go to everywhere in Shanghai!"

"I stayed at 2 rooms: 1 basic room on the 9th floor and 1 terrace room on the 14th floor. The rooms are clean and well air-conditioned. The bathroom is also very high tech: the toilet lid opens/closes/flushes automatically, and has a bidet function. I deducted a star because of 3 reasons. It will take some time for the staff to provide a room card, even if you have a room reservation. Likely 10+ minutes. The rooms smelled ok, but the lobby and hallway had a sulfur smell. I also had very little wifi connection while staying in the more expensive terrace room on the 14th(?) floor. I don't remember the exact floor number, but it was the second highest floor. I had to use my own cellular data to browse online. Aside from these, I had a clean and comfortable stay. For those eating at the breakfast buffet, I reccomend trying their tasty xiaolongbao!"
