Enjoy breath-taking views over Malaysia's capital city and a meal among the clouds.

While not as famous as the city's Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur Tower, Asia's tallest communication structure, offers 360-degree views of the city. Its dizzyingly high observation platform is actually 100 metres higher than the twin towers' Skybridge, so if you only have time for one journey up high into the clouds, choose this tower as tickets are easier to come by. The structure, which is also known as Menara Kuala Lumpur, stands 421 metres above KL in the centre of the city and was built in 1996 within Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, one of the oldest forest reserves in the country. KL's urban jungle feels a long way off when you wander around this park, which is home to a wide range of native plants, rainforest, wild birds and monkeys. Entrance to the reserve is free and there are guided tours available throughout the day. Menara Kuala Lumpur was originally built to improve the quality of telecommunication and broadcasting transmissions, but now the tower is a popular city landmark. Once you've paid the admission charge, there is plenty to keep you occupied, including an aquarium, an animal zone, a racing arcade, a small theatre and a variety of shops. The main attraction though is taking the lift up to the 276-metre high observation deck. From here you'll be wowed by the 360-degree views of the city (smog and bad weather-permitting). If you can, visit the observation deck at night to see the city lit up for miles around. There is also a rooftop revolving restaurant which offers afternoon tea and a range of local and international dishes. Bring your credit card, as it's the place for a splurge. For those seeking an adrenalin rush, the tower is a World Basejump Centre and there's an annual BASE (Building, Antenna, Span, Earth) event. The nearest Light Rail Transit (LRT) station is Dang Wangi or head to Bukit Nanas Monorail Station. The tower is open daily except on major cultural and religious holidays.
