Where better to take in the grandeur of Kuala Lumpur than from the 86th floor of the world's tallest twin building?

At 452 metres, it's not surprising that the Petronas Twin Towers have become the most iconic landmark in the Malaysian capital. What is surprising is that the tallest twin skyscrapers in the world took just five years to build. Completed in 1997, their design, by the Argentinean César Pelli, was intended to represent the Kuala Lumpur of the new century. The facts and figures are mind-boggling: 33,000 external glass panels, 55,000 external stainless steel panels, 29 double-decker lifts, 88 floors above ground. The race to construct the tallest building has, of course, continued. Several skyscrapers have held the honour since the Taipei 101 took the crown from the Petronas Towers in 2004.Nevertheless, the towers remain as impressive as ever. Test your head for heights on the thrilling Skybridge, at the halfway mark. Linking the two towers at the 41st and 42nd floors, this bridge is 170 metres above ground level. Incredibly, the observation deck on the 86th floor is another 190 metres up. It's open Tuesday through Sunday but spaces are limited and highly sought after, so make sure to get here early to buy your ticket. The panorama that awaits you is truly spectacular - you won't want to miss it.The scale of the Suria KLCC mall at the base of the towers is in keeping with that of the towers themselves. Here you'll find luxury fashion houses, technology outlets and entertainment stores. Or, if culture's more your thing, there's a cinema, an art gallery and the National Philharmonic Orchestra Hall. There's even an aquarium. What's more, when you've worked up an appetite, you have a wide range of restaurants and cafes to choose from.Public transport is a quick and easy way to visit the Petronas Twin Towers. Or, if you're heading downtown by car, you can make use of the paid underground car park. Either way, it's well worth the trip.
