This oasis of tropical greenery in the middle of bustling Kuala Lumpur offers fine views from its peaceful landscaped gardens.
Located by the dazzling Petronas Twin Towers, the Suria KLCC shopping mall, the KLCC Convention Centre and a whole host of fancy hotels, this is the place to head for some fresh, if humid, air. The 20 hectare tropical landscape was designed by Brazil's Roberto Burle Marx who wanted to showcase the city's tropical greenery in the middle of the city, using trees, shrubs, wood, stones and water features. Both locals and tourists flock here throughout the day to enjoy the park's water features, splash pool and grassy lawns. In the centre of the park is Lake Symphony, a massive man-made lake with beautiful water fountains. There is a water show where plumes of water shoot up to 42 metres into the air between 12 noon and 2.00 pm and 6.00 pm and 11.00 pm on weekdays and all day at the weekend. The show is best enjoyed at night when there are also beautiful views of the well-lit Petronas Towers that loom above you. From the park's walkways, enjoy the people-watching on offer: Malaysian families who live in the city are frequent visitors. There is also plenty of local fauna and flora to see, as more than 2000 palms and native plants were planted here, and they attract plenty of native birds. On a humid day, kids will love splashing around at the pool – it's only for the under 12s unfortunately. If you are feeling extra-energetic, there is a 1.3-kilometre long jogging track that loops around the park. And when you need a break from the heat, the park is lined with air-conditioned cafés and restaurants at Suria KLCC where you can rest for a while, admire the views and get ready for more sight-seeing.The park is easy to find. Simply head to KLCC on the subway and follow the signs.
