Question 2

Which area of Kendal is best to stay in for cheap hotels?

Accepted Answer

For budget-conscious solo travellers seeking cheap hotels in Kendal, focusing your search within the town centre or slightly beyond offers the best value. These areas provide convenience to amenities and transport links without the higher prices sometimes associated with boutique or luxury options.

The heart of Kendal, around Highgate and Stricklandgate, features a selection of guesthouses, smaller hotels, and B&Bs that often have more competitive pricing. Solo travellers will appreciate being within walking distance of shops, cafes, and local attractions like Kendal Castle and the Abbot Hall Art Gallery, many of which are free to explore.

Moving slightly out, towards areas like the A6 south of the town centre or the A591 north, can also reveal more affordable chain hotels or independent inns. These locations usually offer good bus connections into the town centre, making exploration straightforward even without a car.

Question 3

Question 4

When is the most affordable time to visit Kendal?

Accepted Answer

The most affordable time to visit Kendal is generally during the shoulder seasons of spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October), or even the quieter winter months (November-March), excluding the Christmas and New Year period. During these times, you'll find lower prices for accommodation and fewer crowds, allowing for a more relaxed and budget-friendly experience.

For solo travellers, visiting outside of the peak summer months means better deals on guesthouses and bed and breakfasts, which often have single rooms available. The weather can still be quite pleasant for exploring the town's independent shops, museums, and galleries without the summer rush, and you can enjoy the surrounding Cumbrian landscapes in their seasonal beauty.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway on a budget will find that many hotels offer off-peak discounts, and dining establishments are less busy.

Public buses connect Kendal to other parts of the Lake District, allowing you to explore without the expense of a car.
