Needs more maintenance
While the inside was clean and upgraded with new kitchen, bathroom and flooring, the windows didn't shut properly and were not clean. The outside of the house desperately needs maintenance. We heard rats in the ceiling. It is a quaint place which would be good for a young family but not really us oldies. View was lovely.

Thanks for the feedback Kate. Totally agree about maintenance. We have a builder booked for July to replace the windows and replace the siding.

Nice rustic little cottage as in the description. Comfortable with views overlooking the river. Used the kayaks on the river. Would enjoy coming back again sometime.

Pink Pippi disappoints
The wonderful location of the property was completely overshadowed by the extremely poor state of repair. We find it hard to believe that a property of this calibre is able to be on the Bookabach site. The house was dirty, there were rotten window systems and large gaps in window panes, many window catches missing, and no cladding around one side of the house. We heard rats in the ceiling on both nights. We would not recommend this property to anyone.

Beach get away
This stay was a Christmas gift, we had a lovely surprise. The location was perfect and easy to find. The house was excellent and all you needed (except I didn't take tea and coffee) The dishwasher was a bonus for me. We also wished we had body boards as the surf on the beach was great. Thank you for a great get away.

Awesome location
Fantastic location right on waters edge. Used kayaks to puddle around in the estuary. Stunning views and local walks and a great store a few minutes walk away which sells everything including great coffee. Have stayed here before and can't wait to get back.

Loved the location. House was comfortable and had everything we needed - classic Kiwi crib! Could be made even better with see-through glass in the sitting room doors to allow the view to be enjoyed while they are shut. Appreciated the ready supply of blankets so we could leave them open though. Would happily stay again.

Christmas Get away
You could not ask for a better location, the house is right on the estray with such easy access to the water. The use of kayaks was awesome and the kids loved it. Everything you could ask for in the kitchen (even a rice cooker and mixer). We had an awesome stay and a great Christmas :) Thanks

Fantastic location and room for all!
Location was absolutely stunning, fantastic to have kayaks provided to use. We had 10 people stay and it was so nice to have room for the whole family. Close to Karitane shop was a bonus. Place is a little run down, especially in the one bedroom and power kept tripping if appliances and heaters were on, otherwise had great facilities to use. We had a rat in the roof which kept us up, but pest control did visit while we were staying. The fireplace and wood provided was a treat! Bernie and Geoff had excellent intructions and great communication. Would definitly return in the future!

This is a cosy wee bach in a lovely location. It's a little cold and damp but just fine once the heaters are going. Great location for day trips to Dunedin.

Saw mice running around not just evidence (ie droppings); saw mold and thought it looked like black mold, all of us had respiratory issues while staying at house; windows falling out; not that clean upon arrival. These are just top unsatisfactory issues. We left a day early and would have left sooner if we were able to do so. Also VRBO horrible in responding to us. Last VRBO contact was 15th of April and we’re still waiting on response from supervisor to our emails. She actually advised us to sit and wait for mice so we could take picture! Probably will not use again and planning to seek compensatory damages from VRBO due to health issues.

Great outlook if you can see it.
The first night we got there I thought 'oh no, what have we done'. Most of the windows in the living area were textured so we couldn't see the view even though it was right outside. The house had been closed up, and was musty with a strong chemical smell in one of the bedrooms. The window sills (and shelving) were gritty and dusty, and on one window the glass didn't entirely fill the hole. Classic ancient kiwi bach. More than slightly falling down. However the next morning the weather settled, and we could open the doors to the deck, and bask in the view and the sun, and air the house out. It was much improved. The new kitchen was good, the gas hot water excellent, nice shower, and good Wifi once we figured out what the access code was. The set up was good for kids (except the room with the chemical smell I wouldn't have used), with games etc. and having the water right outside was great. We couldn't figure out the video though. Overall a bit cleaner would be nice. A bit more opportunity to enjoy the view without the wind would be nice. But for a longer stay, and if you are happy to truly bach it, and the weather is settled, it could be a good choice.

Good, but the address was hard to find.
Property was very clean and absolutely beautiful view over the lagoon. Only problem was the address in the header of thehouse description is not the same as the one you should use on Google Maps to find the location. When I entered the first address it took me to a place in Warrington and then to a random spot along the coast road. Finally got to the house but I could have got there easier and quicker along the main road if the correct address was in the house description.

Weather was not that great but found the wiFi good. Great shower and the bed was good, Instructions re the tv need updating but a phone call solved the problem. Overall enjoyed our stay and would like to return when the weather is better.

What a find!
I lived in Palmerston aged 8 to 20, and visited Karitane often, but had never stayed in Karitane until this visit. The bach is well situated, however I found it hard to find at 10.30pm at night. Maybe a luminous sign at start of driveway might be a good idea? I am respite-carer for a young man with autism. He loved staying at the bach. Having a new kitchen and bathroom, was great. Cranked up the woodburner the last couple of nights. Lots of firewood available. The location within Karitane is great. We walked around the point, visited the local shop a few times, and found the proprietors to be friendly, knowlegable, Stopped to chat to some locals, and met others from out of town who gave us fresh blue cod. What more could one ask for?! I wasnt able to use the kayaks, as needed an other adult to supervise Liam, however will take others with me next time so I/we can use them. We have made two bookings already for the future. A top place to stay, in a great location in the best province in the country!

Amazing weekend getaway!!
Absolutely awesome such a family friendly and very inviting place, would highly recommend to anyone with kids. Primo location. The kids enjoyed getting cockles and adventuring most the day, even with cold weather it was great. The fireplace was loved by all and made it so nice and cosy. The black board was also a highlight for all! Was under the impression there was bikes to use but couldn't find them, and also was stated that there was a highchair for use but again didn't find.

We had a lovely time at the Pink Pipi. There was enough room for two families of young kids even though it was a rainy week and we spent a lot of time inside. The kids loved the kayaks when the weather cleared and we had a walk around the pa and saw a sea lion swimming around. The house is quite old but the new kitchen and bathroom was great. It was great to be right on the water as the kids were safe to play on the beach and have a paddle. We would definitely come back.

Location, location
Karitane was a bit of an undiscovered gem before this trip. We enjoyed exploring several wildlife sanctuaries to the North, en route to Moeraki. We even saw yellow eyed penguins! We also loved hanging out at the old pa site and taking the kayaks out onto the river.
