We had a great stay, the hotel was very nice and clean. It was a little far from the centre, but very close to the subway. The breakfast was excellent and on the last day, when we left at 5:45am they prepared a wonderful packed breakfast for me and my children.
Exactly as you would expect from a shangri-la hotel, everything was immaculate with a shopping mall, oriental garden and spa. Service was exceptional and always friendly. We checked in early with no issues and received a free upgrade.
Booked the Wanda Realm due to it's location close to a conference facility. I appreciated the price and was upgraded to a suite which was very welcome. I did not eat at the hotel so I cannot comment on the food but the room was very well appointed and clean. Internet was decently fast.

Hotel itself was beautiful. Room very nice, as nice as you would find anywhere. Staff very friendly and very helpful, but few spoke English. They helped arrange cabs and made great suggestions for walking tours of Beijing. Food in hotel excellent. The swimming pool and health club is first class. I would highly discourage renting a car, no parking anywhere and driving a little crazy. Location of hotel is not near shops or restaurants so taxi or subway necessary to get to downtown or other sites. Same for restaurants, only one about 2 blocks away. Taxis are bad but subway only $3 anywhere. The city itself is a bit grimy but the people are almost universally helpful and friendly. The historical sites are amazing. You can often find unofficial guides at the sites and strike a rate there. We were fortunate and had no smog.
I typically visit Beijing 3-4 times a year for business. The Park Plaza has been my primary go to place when I visit. While in the past, I've been very pleased with the accommodations, this list trip was disappointing. The "Superior" room that I had booked was very worn - stains on the wall paper, desk chair was broken, etc. The normal morning buffet was very limited, almost like they were making enough food for only 1-2 guests. The food selections at the other restaurants on site wasn't much better - very limited. I'll be headed back to Beijing at the beginning of 2015 and will give the Park Plaza one more try. Hopefully this was a one time occurrence but if not, I will likely be switching my business to another hotel.
