"Hotel is close to many of the amenities."
I found the staff very helpful and friendly and the 'free' continental breakfast was a great start to each day. The room was quite comfortable and was kept clean and tidy. The only negatives was the overnight noise from outside 'revellers' and vehicles on the first night (Sunday), but even though the hotel is close to Lime Street Rail Station, you could hardly hear any noise from that area. Overall I was very pleased with the hotel and I will be definitely staying there again in the future.

"Great value caring hotel on the Waterfront."
We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel for the price. Great to have free parking so close to amenities and attractions, and the conference I was attending at ACC. After a problem with noisy guests in the room next door, we were temporarily moved to another room so we could get some sleep, whilst the duty manager spoke to the people concerned. We couldn't fault the service and friendliness of the staff. The pod shower rooms are clean and well equipped if a bit cosy!

Black Lions Guest House

"A welcoming, friendly place."
I was visiting Birkenhead, to meet my Son, and found The Black Lions Guest House. I was lucky to have discovered it. The hotel is situated on the New Chester Road, in Rock Ferry. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I arrived very early. I was dreading having to ask if my room was ready at 10.30 a.m, but Nick, the owner, was absolutely fine with the situation, and was so accommodating (The website mentions 2 p.m. as the earliest booking in time, but if you e-mail Nick beforehand, he will do his best to fit you in) The room was en-suite and was clean and well provisioned with the basic requirements. Nick was only too glad to furnish me with the local travel options as well as directing me to a local pub who were known for excellent pub meals. Breakfast was beyond reproach, and a full English with Coffee was wolfed down. (Again, Nick was always ready to fulfil any reasonable request. At one point,I ran out of milk, tea and sugar, a quick word with Nick and I was replenished. :-) ) Again, due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to leave in the early evening of my second day there, but will certainly be re-visiting in the near future.

"Well located."
Just a room that I booked for a short weekend stay, to visit friends. I had a little trouble finding it at first, but this was due to my not paying attention to where I was going. While it is not a hotel for holidaying, per se, it IS extremely useful for the odd night/stag/hen do type customer. It's cheap enough, very clean, and the shared bathroom aspect isn't even a deal killer. All in all, I was very pleased. The staff were polite and prompt, and payment was simple. Ditto checking in or out. To sumamrise, the perfect hotel for the night out/weekend visit. I read some of the more negative reviews, and was apprehensive when I got there, but really. It's a nice, cheap,. functional place, with great staff. I recommend this hotel entirely.

"Clean and comfy rooms in a kinda sketchy building"
My friends and I stayed at this place 2 times within a week in December 2014. There are rooms to accommodate 1, 2, and 3 adults. The rooms were either renovated very recently (as of the time of our stay), or have always been well-maintained: they were very clean, and everything in them worked perfectly. The rooms have complimentary Wi-Fi, password-secured (not using MAC-address filtering!). This means that you can connect your streaming media-players like Chromecast to the room's big-screen TV and enjoy Netflix or other quality online content, instead of the numerous ad-overloaded satellite channels. The rooms we stayed in were facing the pub across the street, so some loud entertainment was filling the rooms until 1 AM. The rooms have traditional British two-fauceted sinks, which are ridiculously inconvenient for us Americans. The check-in took 3 minutes or less (sign the form, get your key, and you're done!). For the check-out, you simply drop off your key in the box on the wall on your way out.
