1. Booking via Expedia is lacking communication. (Booked BBQ, but Sukiyaki was prepared)
2. Neighbor group was very noisy until 1am.

"Beautiful room, wonderful onsen, a bit hard to get to by transit but doable if you don’t have too much luggage. Weather prevented view of Mt Fuji but the rolling fog was mystical. Giant spider in room."
"I liked the authentic look and theme of the onsen. Everyone was super nice and helpful. Really enjoyed my time there and the culture. Shame it was just for one night. Oh , P.S. if you intend to use the onsen, you are expected to be in there totally nude, and washed clean before getting in. Sure it's a bit weird of a custom, but worth the experience."
"The hotel is gorgeous and perfectly located near Togendai station. Accessible by public transport, it was easy to get to from Tokyo.
The rooms are perfectly suited for short stays but could be stretched for 3 or 4 days and still be super comfortable. Plenty of Instagram worthy photo opportunities, sensational breakfast and dinner.
Staff are constantly helpful and wonderful. My only issue was 2 nights wasn't enough to catch everything that Hakone and the surrounds had to offer.

"The staff were exceptional! Professional and had paid attention to detail. Onsen was such an experience!! Very clean facilities, amenities were amazing, well kept hotel despite its history. Definitely avail for the free shuttle bus from Odawara station in Hakone to your hotel and back but make sure you do a reservation for this especially if you are traveling with luggage. "The pictures online don’t do the surrounding area justice. It’s tucked in a beautiful woodsy area. The staff was okay. Their attitude was a bit underwhelming. We knew we couldn’t go to them if we needed something or had questions. There was definitely a huge language barrier which made it hard to understand the amenities. We were very confused about how the women and men’s baths worked. We understood that from a certain time in the morning women were allowed and then men after?? So we thought it was a unisex bath?? I don’t really know it wasn’t explained well and we didn’t know if tattoos were excepted. We ended up just using our private one in our room which was nice. The room and hotel itself seems a bit old and run down. Also, we had a huge room and the bathroom was SUPER small. The smallest we’ve seen since our stay here in Japan. It was nice for a night but I wouldn’t spend the money on more than one night here. I think it’s something to experience just for the private bath in the room for a night maybe two."
