Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We describe our unit as a Standard4 cabin which is a private cabin comprising of a double bed and a set of single bunk-beds. The cabin contains a microwave oven, fridge, jug, toaster, cutlery and crockery. We make it clear that all our facilities are shared, including the swimming pool, hot tub, covered BBQ / dining area, showers and toilets. Once again, thank you for your feed back.

Hello Tara, We do apologise for the ambiguity on Hotels.com. "Partially open bathroom" refers to the design of the building, with an off-set doorway, as we wanted to warn guests it may attract the occasional breeze through the stalls. Our budget cabins are minimalist in nature, which is why they are offered at a budget rate. Whangarei is not a small town, at least by New Zealand standards, and the going rate for ensuite rooms in town is easily twice what we charge for our budget cabins. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us, despite the minor confusion regarding the facilities. Thank you for the review, and we hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip around Northland.

Hello deepseaoyster, We do have extra blankets available in the front office if you come in and ask. We don't put the extra blankets into each cabin, as not everybody wants one, and we can't predict who all needs one. The spa pool was closed on Saturday because there was a problem with the pump, and we weren't able to sort out the problem until the pool repairperson arrived on Monday, and discovered one of the guests on Friday night had rolled up a t-shirt and stuffed it into spa pool drain. It is now up and running again for the next time you want to come stay with us. Thank you for your review.

Dear Anonymous, thank you for taking the time to review our hostel and your positive comments. Our rooms are cleaned and aired on a daily basis with many positive comments about the cleanliness of our rooms and facilities. Sheets etc are laundered and cleaned for every guest arrival. We have never had a issue with fleas before or since your stay and would suggest that perhaps you are confusing fleas with sand-flies. Many of the cabins actually have their own kitchenette that can accommodate between 4 - 6 people. There is also a dinning table in the TV lounge / library area for everyone's use if they so choose. We hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in New Zealand

Hello Henry, You stayed in one of our budget cabins, which are advertised as budget cabins, and are only designed as a place to sleep. Therefore, a bed and a chair perfectly meet those criteria without making the small rooms feel cramped. We do have a variety of standard cabins available which all include a kitchenette and various amenities, for only a small additional increase over the budget cabins. Thank you for your review.

Hello Warren, Did you get a chance to take the Mt. Manaia hike? It is out at the Whangarei Heads, but it is probably the best hike in the area on a nice sunny day. Thank you for your review.

Hello David, We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. The office is closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. because we have a small staff, and need to be able to focus on cleaning the facilities before new guests arrive to check in. Check in starts at 2 p.m., so there really is no reason to leave the office open after checkout and before check-in time. Just a clarification, the town centre is only five kilometres away, which is closer to three miles, not five. Thank you for your review.
