"We had a lovely 2 day break at the Park Head Hotel. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. Breakfast and dinner were delicious and top quality. Our dog, Tilly was well looked after too. Barnard castle and the surrounding area are beautiful with some great walks along the river."

"I stay here on a regular basis when I travel between Glasgow and the south. The hotel is a grand old building in a beautiful little hamlet off the A1 with lots of history. Due to this and the fact its family owned and not part of a huge chain, it’s a bit worn in places but it’s clean, comfortable and cosy with plenty of charm and quirks.. The staff are lovely, welcoming, very helpful and do their best to make your stay a good one. There’s a spa, a bar and a restaurant, the food is delicious and there is a variety of dishes to suite all. I would stay here before considering any of the other places nearby for all of these reasons."

"A really good location to stop overnight and very happy with the room. Breakfast was delivered in a hamper box outside our room and was rather disappointing. No egg/cold meats option. The main option was oats with fruit. We ordered with banana and strawberry. Tiny amount of strawberry and the banana slices were dried and chewy. But the evening meal was good honest pub grub."

"Paid £50 to have my 2 small dogs stay with me for 1 night in a dog-friendly room. But then was told by reception staff that, because I booked through Expedia, I was not entitled to a water bowl or bed for them - which I would have been had I booked direct. Madness. Also not impressed with car parking - run by an ANPR company with hefty fines, even for hotel residents."

"Staff very friendly and helpful. Slight mistake when checking in but this was resolved with no fuss. Hotel is excellently located and wonderful big rooms with plenty of character and no noise at all overnight."
