Dubailand is a project that is typical of the city’s drive for expansion and innovation. An enormous entertainment and residential district is planned, and whilst this is still a work in progress, you’ll see how millions of square metres of desert are undergoing a total transformation. Although the full range of theme parks, malls, sporting attractions and homes are still a long way off completion, there are many attractions open to visitors.
The best place to start your exploration of the site is the Dubailand Experience Center where you’ll find maps and general information about the resort. View scale-models of attractions you’ll be able to visit, as well as stunning displays of roller coasters and space shuttles hinting at what future projects will bring to this site.
Sports fans will be amazed by the attractions on offer. Dubai Sports City is home to the 25,000-seat Dubai International Cricket Stadium as well as an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Ernie Els. There are also plenty of opportunities to brush up your skills, with coaching facilities including football and athletics academies. Head to Dubai MotorCity to test your reactions at the Kartdrome. Everything you need to know to become a winner on the track can be learnt at the Race and Driving School.
If shopping is more your passion, you will be astounded by the Dubai Outlet Mall. Here you’ll be spoilt for choice with over 240 factory outlet shops selling more than 800 famous brands covering designer fashion, shoes and accessories, as well as homeware, all at hugely discounted prices. The mall also has its own entertainment centre with an ice rink and bowling alley.
A visit to the Global Village will take you through 30 themed pavilions representing countries from all over the world. As well as offering you the chance to sample international food, there are also spectacular performances each evening such as the Art of Fire and the Skywheel Stunt Show.
