The tone was set when we arrived and before we had crossed the threshold our baggage had disappeared with the doormen, we were welcomed by name (identified by our luggage tags) and promptly upgraded from a room with two double beds and view, to a junior suite. The room was excellently appointed, with so many gadgets and thoughtful touches that we were still finding things out while leaving (e.g. the mirror in the bathroom has an integral tv screen!). It is an expensive hotel, but unlike other places I have stayed I felt the cost was more than matched by the standard of accommodation and service. Highlights included watching a firework display in the distance from the uncrowded rooftop terrace while a pianist played, use of the beautiful spa facilities with no one else around, and being offered a bottle of water when I returned from a morning run around the Tiergarten.

This was my first time to Berlin since before the wall came down and I was looking for a hotel that I would be comfortable in for a 5 night stay. I hit the jackpot with the Hampton. I've stayed at many a Hampton in the US and was quite familiar with their properties. This one did not disappoint and far exceeded my expectations. The hotel staff were very helpful, the room was very comfortable, clean and modern. The morning breakfast buffet was more than adequate with an assortment of hot and cold offerings. The location was perfect. Right off of the KUDAM and just two blocks from a S-Bahn and U-Bahn station. Lot's of restaurants in the area from kiosks to formal dining. Very safe neighborhood, even after dark.
