Shin Umeda City’s glittering jewel-like tower stretches 40 stories into the sky and features a floating garden observatory for viewing the city.

Gazing skywards along the gleaming sides of the Umeda Sky Building, your eyes can barely reach the top of the 173-metre (567-foot) building. Come to see the twin towers, the traditional market restaurants beneath them and the surrounding area. The most captivating attraction is the Floating Garden Observatory rooftop.

Umeda Sky Building stands tall in the developed Shin Umeda district. The building’s two towers were completed in 1993 and stretch up 40 stories to the floating observatory. This platform bridges the gap between the two towers. On clear days the glass of the towers reflects the colours of the sky like a mirror, creating the illusion that the atrium observatory is floating in thin air.

Take a lift to the top of one of the towers and visit the remarkable garden. Check out the amazing vista of the Osaka skyline all the way to Awaji Island. If you’re not afraid of heights you can head out to the open part of the rooftop and breathe the fresh air. From here you can gaze across some of the most spectacular sights in the city. It is not advisable to visit the rooftop on windy days.

After reaching the towers’ pinnacle, head down to the restaurant markets below. Explore the Takimi Koji gourmet street, a strip of restaurants in the Umeda Sky Building’s basement. The street is a re-creation of the dynamic and bustling mid-20th-century Showa period in Osaka and features a range of traditional food and an exciting atmosphere.

Stop by Shin Umeda City, located in the area surrounding the tower, on your way out. This area features flower gardens, fountains and a walkway.

The Floating Garden Observatory in the Umeda Sky Building is open every day until late, year-round. Admission costs are inexpensive and children receive a discount. Catch the subway to the Umeda station and cover the short distance to the towers on foot.
