Relax Hotel Takayama Station

10/10 Excellent
"I'm a Westerner and I came to Takayama during Obon week to hopefully flee the heat and some of the crowds. There weren't a lot of hotel options available for our family. I usually go for Western hotel chains but gave Relax a chance since the price and location was right and the reviews raved. It lives up to the hype. It's definitely an awesome value. I was definitely impressed with Relax. It's an easy walk from the train station. The mattresses are thick and pretty good. The room was spacious and clean and the breakfast was delicious and large. They also include complimentary beverages and a kitchenette. With limited options I just booked it and didn't realize there was a kitchenette but it could have saves us a lot of money if we decided to cook in the room. I say this with high regard: Relax is like a grown up hostel you can bring your kids. Safe, clean, high value in a location you want to be in."

"I enjoyed the breakfast! It was one of the best breakfast so far. It had lots of choices from traditional Japanese to western choices. I appreciated it learning and tasting the Japanese breakfast as I am here to do so. The room was clean and quiet. The bed and pillows were comfortable. I wished we had a better view of the city but we got the wall and roof of the building next to us. I like that it was very close to the bus station and that we were able to leave our luggage before we checked in so we could explore the city. The staff was very helpful in providing us with information. They were also very friendly and polite. The staff is what makes a hotel experience excellent!"

"We were made to feel exceptionally welcomed on arrival by the staff. The place was comfortable and clean, the staff extremely attentive, and we were provided with every amenity required. We felt that the offer of the Yukatas and sleeping garments were really considerate. We enjoyed the carefully curated dishes for dinner. Really exceptional service, this is how luxury travel used to feel and sadly has been lost in many places in more modern times. Highly rated. Takayama was the highlight of our visit."
