The onsen was nice and clean with friendly staff. The location was a bit away from the old town and hiking trail. A nice hotel. The food was not as nice as the onsen and Roikan we stayed at in Nikki, hence the 4 stars.

Room was very nice and spacious and feels luxurious and comfortable. Buffets were nice and had a lot of selections. I was not overly impressed with the Hida beef but it is a personal choice thing. Staff is mostly young friendly gracious people. Buffets are a combination of Japanese and western cuisine. Gift shop is very big. Would stay here again

Breakfast was included as well as the onsen. Breakfast was very good and had a variety of Japanese and western breakfast foods. Our room was exceptionally large for Japan. Onsen was very clean and never felt crowded. It was close enough to walk to Takayama station but a little far to walk to the older part of town where most the shops and activities for Takayama Matsuri were being held- however a taxi to the old town was only 1000 yen one way.
