⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 I was really looking forward to staying at this ryokan, especially because of the price we paid. I expected a more luxurious, plush ryokan experience. The staff were excellent—very kind, welcoming, and attentive. The property was also very clean, and the presentation of both dinner and breakfast was beautiful. Unfortunately, the meals did not meet my expectations. Much of the food was presented uncooked, so we had to cook it ourselves at the table. I was particularly disappointed with the beef, which was quite tough. I had been really looking forward to experiencing a special Japanese ryokan dinner, so this was a significant disappointment. The presentation of the meals was beautiful, but for the price, I expected the quality and dining experience to be much better. I also wasn't completely sure whether the bathing facility was supplied with natural hot-spring water or was more like a heated bath. This was not clear to me during our stay. Overall, the wonderful staff and cleanliness were definite positives, but the food and overall experience did not live up to my expectations for the price. For these reasons, I would give the ryokan 3 out of 5 stars.

Great Location & Room

Great location especially for festivals and old town. The best room, friendly staff, public onsen, really enjoyed traditional breakfast. Make sure the hotels helps with dinner reservations, they did not offer for us and a lot of restaurants book up.

This is a very lovely hotel in downtown Takayama. We were staying here for one night coming from Kusatsu. We had some issues with the GPS so were going to be late for dinner, we called them and they said they would hold dinner for us no issues. We had the Hida beef dinner which was fantastic. The breakfast the next morning was also fantastic. The room had a nice view of the river and we left the door open all night without any noise. Most of the town closes down at 6pm but opens back up at 8am. The beds were very uncomfortable so glad we only stayed one night. The staff was very friendly. They helped us pick out our yukatas and gave us beautiful tabi socks as a souvenir.

We loved our stay here! Transportation from and to the train station was provided which gave us one less thing to worry about. We booked with the dinner and breakfast option and both were spectacular. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely stay again!

Excellent location and service

Amazing stay. Service is excellent, especially the shuttle service between the hotel and the train station. The staff are so obliging. Location is good as it is within walking distance to the old town and most restaurants/cafes and shops.

Lovely place

Lovely hotel within walking distance of the old town. The staff are excellent and super helpful. I used the spa one afternoon and had it to myself. We had a room with a view of the river. Highly recommend if staying in Takayama.
