The hotel was ideally located between the station and Takayama's Old Town district, making it extremely convenient and quiet at the same time. The room was clean and spacious at the same time, with a traditional bathroom, immersing us more in the old town feel. Staff were helpful and assisted us with our enquiries. I booked this hotel for the Autumn Festival, and couldn't be happier with my option. If you want somewhere that is quiet, traditional, intimate and convenient, the Machiya is your hotel!
Room was great for 3 travelers. Nice and spacious. We got the room with the Japanese soaking tub, amazing. No elevators so had to carry luggage up stairs. Convenient location.
We stayed in the family villa, which is a short distance from the main hotel. It is a two-story home right on the river with the balcony overlooking the river. There are bedrooms upstairs and downstairs. which was nice for us to have a separate space from our children, and bathrooms on both floors. There’s also a kitchen if needed. Everything is modern and well appointed, with a lovely soaking tub on the main floor. I could not recommend this more, with a reasonable price for what you’re getting considering the quality of the accommodation. Fantastic location, fantastic accommodation.

Lovely comfortable small hotel with unique, comfortable rooms, a great breakfast, and friendly service. I’ll recommend it to friends for sure!
Very friendly and welcoming boutique hotel. Beds were excellent. Breakfast was very nice - it was prepared freshly and delivered to your table. Very homely sitting area. Very soacious room but a bit tired.
Wonderful hotel in the style of a traditional Japanese inn with all the modern conveniences. Very centrally located, and the staff is incredible, especially Yuka. We loved Takayama, and would not hesitate to stay here in the future
This stay exceeded our expectations. From the walkability of this location to the comfortable beds, we enjoyed everything. Their baths and shared dining areas were a huge plus—their tea selection was much appreciated after a long day hiking.
Rooms are cozy and comfortable. There is a complimentary lounge area to have some coffee, tea and snacks. However the cons are thin walls so you can hear noises from the room next door. Also, there is no parking space owned by the hotel so we had to park a few streets away and drag the luggages over.
