NEIGHBORHOOD
The district takes its name from Porta Romana, one of the 6 gates of Milan built in the sixteenth century a.c. It is a stone’s throw from the center and is well connected by public transport surface and the Metro M3. It is also reachable by the train station of Milano Porta Romana, which is served by the trains of the S9 (Saronno-Milano-Albairate) line.
GET AROUND
In Porta Romana there are definitely places to spend quiet days full of fun. There are many places to visit beyond the beautiful sixteenth-century arch that rises at the point where once stood the main imperial entrance on the way to Rome. Walking through the neighborhood you will notice the sumptuous buildings of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries that house offices and residences for the local elite.
The Prada Foundation, whose continuously rotating exhibitions vie for visitors\' attention to its gold-plated façade designed by Rem Koolhaas and presents a more modern-style architecture. Equally striking are the contemporary works of the Fabbrica Orobia, an innovative gallery set up in a former factory. For fans of theater not to be missed is the historic Teatro Franco Parenti. Who likes to read a stop at the Open is mandatory, an alternative center that brings together a library, a bar and a design store. On warmer days the ideal is a stop at the Mysterious Baths, a public swimming pool embellished with a statue. For a more luxurious experience, close your day at the QC Termemilano spa, where you can sip a glass of champagne by the pool while admiring the illuminated arches of the city’s monuments.
