Playa del Amor, or Lover's Beach, is so named because of its secluded location and unspoiled atmosphere. It has the feel of a deserted paradise and is the ideal spot for a romantic afternoon or a day of family relaxation. Enjoy its dramatic setting at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula and take some photos at the famous El Arco sea arch. The secret to Playa del Amor's serene environment is the absence of cars, buildings and shops. Bring your own picnic supplies, because apart from local traders who rent parasols and sell food and drink on the busiest days, there are no facilities whatsoever. You won't be able to resist a refreshing dip in the crystal clear waters, but stick to the Sea of Cortez, as the currents on the Pacific side of the beach are considered too strong for swimming. When the tide is out you can take a relaxing stroll under the dramatic El Arco. Known as the gateway to the ocean, this craggy limestone formation marks the beginning of Land's End, where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez. Feel the history as you photograph this stunning millennia-old landform, created by the erosive forces of the choppy seas and high winds. The Sea of Cortez is home to an abundance of marine life. Bring your snorkelling gear with you to Playa del Amor and get acquainted with the bay's colourful tropical fish. The warm, clear waters of this sheltered bay are also home to some of the world's largest mammals from December to March you can spot whales, which come here to give birth to their young.Kayaking is a fun way to get to Playa del Amor and there are plenty of rental shops in town. Alternatively, book a return trip with a water taxi company from Cabo San Lucas Marina or Medano Beach. Another good option, especially if you want to get a glimpse of the area's magnificent reefs, is to come as part of a glass-bottomed boat cruise.
