When you head for the warm sands of Playa Langosta you’ll immediately see why it’s such a popular destination for locals just as for tourists. A tranquil unspoilt spot with safe and shallow water as well as plenty of great bars and restaurants, it appears almost unaffected by progress in spite of being more and more popular with overseas visitors. It’s also the perfect destination for families with children.
When you first arrive, grab a cool refreshing drink from one of the street vendors before heading to the sands and picking out your spot. At the far end of the beach there is plenty of quieter shaded space, whilst nearer the wharf you can join the crowds and enjoy a real taste of Mexican beach culture. Just relax and soak up some rays or enjoy a bit of pier jumping alongside the locals.
The calm, shallow waters of the Caribbean make this one of the more family-friendly beaches around Cancun. With very few boats and hardly any waves, you can bring very young children here for a splash around and to play in safety.
Look out to sea and you’ll spot the ferries gliding around Isla Mujeres. There are dolphins in the area, and you can join one of the organised swims leaving from the beach to see these fine creatures.
Along the shore, stop off for a drink in one of the many bars or enjoy fresh local seafood in one of the restaurants while you look out over the ocean and watch the sun go down.
Located about six kilometres from the heart of Cancun along Boulevard Kukulkan, Playa Langosta is easy to reach by bus or by taxi. Parking is available for a fee at the dock too. Open all hours of the day and free to enter, Playa Langosta is best visited during the week when there are fewer people.
