"Lovely place to stay. Highly recommend it. Very private, loved the bathroom, comfortable bed. Location super convenient, just 5 minutes drive to downtown but you feel like you are staying in a tropical forest. Hannah is a great host, easy to connect with. Bring some good ear plugs because everywhere you stay in Hawai’i that has forest and woodland nearby will have little tree frogs. You never see them but you hear them. Also, just ask Hannah if you need cutlery, dishes etc. All available if you let her know. Would definitely stay here again if we ever return to Hilo. "

"It really was a Tolkienesque oasis. Indoor space was clean clean clean and well organized. Outdoor space was peaceful and beautiful. Hosts provided helpful info on what to do and where to eat. Super responsive to questions. Excellent hot tub. "

"Balcony chair webbing was ripped open. There were tears in the drapery lining, Fridge and ice bin were in the bathroom > unpleasant double duty for bath vanity. NO MICROWAVE! The toilet/bathtub room was as dimly lit as a 15 watt lightbulb. The bathroom exhaust system wasn't working leaving the room soaked with moisture. The towel rack above the toilet had large areas of rusty bare metal. The grunge factor was everywhere. Upgrades have been done with new paint and tile but done on the cheap with unskilled labor. Tile corners were rough. Overpaint on doorknobs and towel hooks. Ceiling light by balcony door looks like it has been there since the 1970s. The very small desk area was directly under the TV. Power outlet on the desk lamp was so worn out a power cord would not stay in contact. The next closest power outlet was 8 feet away under the small table, or, it was in the mishmash of cords behind the desk that served the cable boxes. Wi-Fi was inconsistent and kept disconnecting. And after a power failure it never came back before we left. Why wasn't the hotel's system better surge protected? The noisy bar had an entertainer that thought distorted volume made up for lack of talent. The bar's Mai Tai was the worst EVER. I bottled cocktail would have been better. It tasted like canned orange juice. I ordered two Mai Tais and a French dip sandwich to go. Mai Tais were made right away. The drink ice had melted before the sandwich was served... with no dip sauce or napkins."

"We would have given all 5s except that when we arrived we were not met by a host. We were able to let ourselves in using the lock box key. We discovered the beds not made, trash in the rooms and on the floors, linen in piles and in the washing machine. After checking to make sure we had the correct day and time, we called Charlotte and got an immediate response. She apologized for a missed communication, and arranged for 3 housekeepers to make the beds and provide clean towels. The next day the housekeeper returned to finish cleaning. In spite of our initial dismay and confusion, it was clearly evident to us that even in its dishelved state, this property was/is unique, loved (well maintained), and worth waiting for. So we did, and we are glad that we did! "

"Lots of room for everyone except:3 nice bathrooms but one in en-suite type so you have to go through a bedroom to access it. One other bath room is in basement."

"Was very difficult to sleep with all the traffic passing by. Not sure that is fixable but a downside to staying there. "
