Kahalu'u Beach Park

A stunning and tranquil waterside haven, particularly popular with snorkelers and divers.

It’s not hard to see why Kahalu’u Beach Park is known by the sobriquet ‘snorkel beach’ its calm and gentle waters offer a mecca for water adventurers. Originally designed as a beach for King Kamehameha and his family, surrounded by a thick seawall to protect the bay, today this spot is popular with visitors from all over.

As soon as you arrive, you’ll see for yourself just how popular this beach is! It’s wise to get here early to find the best spot to lay down your towel and soak up some rays. Don’t be put off by the crowds. They lend the beach a lively, fun atmosphere which visitors really enjoy.

There are plenty of amenities on the beach ensuring you’ll have an enjoyable time at the beach. You can buy food, drinks and hire equipment from various vendors. Public toilets and showers, as well as lifeguards and a shaded pavilion to hide underneath make it a hit with families.

Whether you’re a keen snorkeler or have never tried it before, the shallow waters here are ideal. If this is your first time, hire a mask and snorkel and head into the calm water and take in the magnificent views beneath the surface.

If you’re looking for something more challenging, head for the seawall, around which you may spot Hawaiian turtles, watch the raccoon butterfly fish swirling around the coral reef, and admire the tropical fish at one of the island’s best dive sites.

Situated on Ali’i Drive less than 10 kilometres from town, Kahalu’u Beach Park is best accessed by car, though if you’re driving do bear in mind parking is limited. Public transport options are also limited, though taxis will take you here. The beach opens every day and is free to enter.
